I’ve been working with the NOE 225-70 in a Stag Arms  1-9″ twist, 5.56 with chrome lined bore.  This rifle has had less than 50 jacketed rounds through it.  The throat is .227″ so I S&L in a .227″ die with my homebrew lube.  With the OAL at 2.255-2.260″, the GC is just below the neck, and I’m lightly engraving the end 3/32″ of the ogive (rifling witness marks).  So far, loads that shoot consistent sub 2moa groups are 19-20gr RL15, 18-18.5 IMR 8208XBR, 17-18gr Benchmark, and I’m just starting with RL7 in the 14.5-15.5gr range.  The RL15 loads were worked up in PSD headstamped miltary cases, and the others in FC 223 commercial cases, all with CCI 400 SRP. These ALL are full function, so lock back on an empty magazine, and pretty “soft shooting” from the 16″ barrel, carbine gas/carbine buffer.

Good info, I’ll have to look into this for my own .223

I had the opportunity to stretch the 556s legs this weekend.  My cast loads were doing very well out to 385m, which was as far as I tried.  Now I need to find time to cast more…. ;)

That’s a very good report. Thanks for posting.

Those loads are all modest, but consistent.  I’m thinking I could get more velocity with harder boolits, but don’t feel the need.  I shot some out to 385m this past weekend and was very pleased.

I too had some success with this boolit! Although it is in a CZ 527 bolt gun. Not nearly the ranges you have but all I have access to at this time. My post with pics is on:

I mislabeled the subject line and can’t seem to edit it to the CORRECT mold which is 225-70

I have a new load that I’ve been working on, but won’t declare it a complete success until I have a chance to wring it out on the silhouette range next weekend.  One of the local AR guys looked at my cast groups and said that they are better than either of his 5.56 rifles with ball ammo, so definitely showing promise.

edit: my loads definitely were lookin’ good at 385m despite squirrely wind and mirage.  Not only did they work in my 1-9″, but also in my friend’s 1-8″ twist Wylde chamber.  Reloader 7 in excess of 15gr seems to be the most consistent, and at heavier than expected charges and resultant velocity.  I may have to try H322 or AA2015 and see if they are better than Benchmark in this application.

10 shots from a clean barrel, 50 yards, 4.5x.  This was 15gr Reloader 7 (made in Sweden) vs my old lot (made in USA) shot best 16-16.5gr.  There is no filler and no need for it with Reloader 7 or Benchmark.  These provide full function and leave the action pretty clean even after hundreds of rounds.

I too have used this bullet. I was looking for a round for my old bushmaster. The following for me yields 1.5″ group at 100 yards. Keep in mind my alloy is br 20.0 to 21.5 and using .009 gas check.
                      70 GR NOE Super_alloy Cast

                      COL 2.130
                      CL 1.750 hand trimmed
                      21.0 grs 2520 FPS 34,500 PSI
                      23.5 grs 2867 FPS 47,900 PSI
                      Estimate 2850 fps avg

I have also had great luck with the 37 gr flat nose but not the 55 gr
