      I have both Lyman and NOE 311299s.  There is not much difference in diameters between the two, but the NOE is 4 cavity and casts smoother boolits.  The pet load for my Rem700 30-06 is 29-30gr H322 in RP cases, F210 primers, and seated out to lightly engage the throat and rifling.  I’ve been a bit more aggressive with seating the NOE OUT, and it has performed better at 500m and 1000 yards.  Another load that works very well for ~15 shots is 39gr IMR4895, but requires cleaning at that point as group size increases.

      There are larger diameters of this design from NOE including the 312299, 314299, and 316299, so lots more options, and MUCH tighter tolerances than from Lyman.  Expect an NOE to drop ~.000″-.001″ over the line drawing.

      I AM a proponent of NOE moulds, but have no financial interest in the business.  Al Nelson has been working to improve quality and decrease wait times for delivery, and i applaud him for that.  My preference is for his 4 cavity moulds, but that only because they are lightly lighter than the 5 cavity, and also include the sprue plate hold down screw.

        I am not familiar with the sprue hold-down screw in the molds with less than 5 cavities – any chance of a picture?

        [edit] I know what that is now, I always had one there…jeez…

        As I save up to build-up my custom molds from NOE, I have a Lee 308 2-cavity mold, and I need to push down on the sprue plate with my dipper as I cast, or I get a smeared base. Making the hinge-screw loose or tight makes no difference. A hold-down screw may be something for that kind of problem?

        I recently got my first NOE mold, the 314299 5-cav, it’s so good in the 303 Enfields that I wish I’d tried this years ago. Getting lots of attention from j-word shooters wanting to move into the world of Cast.

          Take a look at the 30cal moulds on the site and compare a 2 cavity with a 4 or 5 cavity.  You should be able to see the button head screw that acts to hold the non hinged end of the sprue cutter down on the larger moulds.

            Just as a note:
            We have started to phase out the roll pin on all our moulds.
            It will take a little time to get all the old stock moved out but
            the new will have the hold down screw.

              I’m using the 311284 from NOE with Carnuba Red. I also seat into the lands & use 38 grains of 4895. It shoots great but like you I have to clean before 20 shots. The bullets are plenty hard but I sized .311 with is probably too large.

                Creeker,

                What alloy are you using?  I am looking at purchasing a NOE 311299 for my .30-06 and my .30-40 Krag, but DO like the looks of your 311284!

                  The alloy was range lead of unknown content, water dropped. Its hard to test this bullet as there’s really no flat surface for my LBT tester but I’ll guess at least 18 BHN & probably a little more. The 284 is a great bullet but I’m not sure its good as the 299.

                    Al has a couple of other “heavies” in stock.  Take a look at the 311331 (218gr RN) and the 311290.  I have the 331, but haven’t made time to do load development.

                      I can’t wait to try out my boolits from the 311299.  I tried powder coating some.  They look pretty, but I couldn’t get them to chamber in my Gunsite Scout.

                      The Lee 312-155 didn’t shoot anywhere near as well powdercoated as it did with conventional lube.  Hi-Tek was promising though.

                      It’s back to the old Lyman 450 for the 299 boolits I guess.
