My mind is making future plans again. Apparently a while back there was a Lee group buy on Cast Boolits for an “original” profile 146gn(ish) 38 S&W for black powder loads back 5-8 years ago. Also, Buffalo Arms does or did something similar, but with a crimp groove.
Matt’s Bullets sells something essentially the same at 150gn, a clone of the old Ideal bullet:
Basically, the driving section is as short as feasible to leave as much room for black powder as possible.
Would there be interest here other than from me? Would a crimp groove version be better?

Maybe I’m wrong, but I think this would be redundant to the .360/.363 150 grainer running in the Active Buy section, which was launched for the very purpose of providing a lightweight bullet for the old top-breaks. Sure, you could scoot the bands back a wee bit to make it more like your profile, but. . .
My thoughts on “leaving as much room for black powder as possible”:
1. For hot-rods in the .35-.36 caliber range, there are far better chassis to build on than the .38 S&W. Not much to be gained by trying to convert a tiny jewler’s hammer into Mjolnir.
2. The great majority of .38 S&W guns you encounter are older than dirt and weren’t very sturdy when new. The Webleys, Enfields, and Victory Smiths are another matter entirely, and for those, we have Swede’s 200 grainers.
Crimp grooves – yeah, I like ’em as they give you versatility beyond the light kicking rounds that are fine with just a taper crimp. The current GB should be workable in most any .358-ish cartridge.
There’s probably no reason you’d NEED to roll-crimp on a blackpowder .38 S&W, so you could seat the GB 150 farther out and gain your capacity that way.
