Howdy,i have been using the medical lead containers and ww for all of my casting, adding some lino as needed for fill out.
The other day i was reading Pet Loads by MR.Waters and for the 45-70 he was casting 7 parts lino and 5 parts soft lead.
The question is will it be harder that the ww/container mix that i am using now?

      Thanks for any replys.

To answer that, you’d need to know the exact recipe that you are currently using.

        This should help.

I calculate that the resulting alloy will be 9.3% antimony and 2.3% tin. Probably of the order of 17-20 BHN, which is still mighty hard alloy (I cast approximately .8% antimony 1.5% tin, BHN 10-11 for revolvers, which approximates 12:1 lead: tin.) Remember that Elmer Keith thought 10:1 was already very hard for long range 44’s.

For velocities up to about 1800 fps (depends on the firearm and bullet in question) I shoot range scrap thinned with lead flashing/pipe for a BHNS of around 12. I find softer works better than hard. When going over 1800 fps I prefer a tougher alloy not a necessarily harder alloy.

              Thanks for the reply’s.
I was just wondering would it make a good hunting alloy or should i just continue with the stuff i am shooting now.

It just seemed to me to be a lot harder than is needed for deer hunting.
Been pushing the mix i use now to just below 2000 in my Marlin in 45-70 and they seem to be accurate out to 125 yards.
The same mix is used in my 41 mag rifle and it works great to 1900+.
I do use 2500+ lube and love it.
