How many of you guys would be interested in a true 147 grain hollow piont. Say something similar to Miha’s 140 except heavier so as to wiegh right at 147 grains with hollow point maybe with a little bigger meplat & I think a gas check would help with the use of softer alloys so as to get positive expansion?
      What say ye???

making it slightly bigger in dia means you could also use it in .38/357 when sized correctly.

yep this could be on MY Want list for sure but do we really need a gas check with 9mm? I’d like to see this in PB

I am sure Al & Matt would offer a plain base version as well.
As well as solid nose. Which would end up around 160 grians or so which would go good in the 38 super or 9×21.

I’d be interested in one.  But most of the 147 grain designs are bevel base because of the 9mm case itself.  I know some would like a gas check design.  But I’d prefer a bevel base for use strictly in 9mm.

I’ve been reluctant to jump in here because I didn’t want to high-jack your thread, but I have to agree with Dragon on the bevel base. The 9mm case has a very limited case capacity, and it’s case walls taper, and get thicker after a very short distance, so a flat base design can bulge the case and make chambering difficult. That’s why almost every 147gr bullet design I know of has a beveled base. I can’t speak for Al, but he seems to be able to make plain base and gas check designs without any problem. I would think he could also do a bevel base on this one as well.

My other question is about the 160 gr bullet weight and length. I think something this long and heavy would eat up a lot of case capacity, and really cut down on the velocity you could achieve without causing excessive pressure. I would really jump in on a design that cast a FP bullet of around 147 grains, with a HP of about 140 grains, something like the Lyman #356637, except at a .358″ diameter with wheel weight alloy. See: http://www.lymanproducts.com/lyman/bullet-casting/mould-details.php?entryID=6 .

If anyone would be interested in something like this with a FP for IPSC, or with a HP for defensive use, I’d be happy to start another thread for that, so I wouldn’t interfere with your thread. What do you think?

For some other existing heavy weight 9mm/38 Super bullet mould designs to think about, take a look at SAECO’s offerings. Go to: http://www.redding-reloading.com/online-catalog/88-bullet-moulds-charts . You’ll then have to click on “charts, page 2” on the top center of the page, and then hit “maximize” towards the bottom of that page to enlarge the drawings. Sorry for the inconvenience, but it’s the best link I could come up with.

I think four of their designs look sort of interesting for the basis of a new HP design:
9mm/38 Super #928, 145gr RN-BB (This one I would like better if it was a flat point)
                    9mm/38 Super #929, 145gr SWC-BB
9mm/38 Super #910, 150gr RN-PB (This one I would also like better if it was a flat point)
                    9mm/38 Super #930, 154br SWC-BB

I think the #928 145gr RN-BB looks a lot like the Lyman 356637 (which I still prefer because it’s a little heavier). Do any of these designs appeal to you as the basis for a new NOE molud?

                    Dave
