The main pressure signs were too low. For several powders in the same category (4759, 4227, n110, etc.) it took at least 19 grns. to give enough pressure to expand the neck enough to preclude excessive sooting of the neck and shoulder area. Also that powder level was needed to keep the primers flush in their pockets. I have had best results using charges in the 20-21 gr. range with these powders and this bullet.
For an even lower velocity but with tremendous accuracy, 13 gr. of 800X was fantastic.
With this bullet seated with the gas check flush at the bottom of the neck, it was too long for some chambers and throats. Easy bolt closure with three different mausers occured with the checks approx. 1/3rd of the way into the shoulder. It hasn’t been a problem so far. Seat them as long as possible for the least amount of check insertion into the shoulder.
