      Fellow Smelters.

Although I’m primarily a revolver guy,  a while back I bought a .452-230Gr HP RG4 for my 45 ACP. After casting up the first batch and showing them to some like minded cronies, the question arose. “Does he make one in 44 for the Special.

So I contacted Mr. Nelson with a preliminary drawing. He also mentioned to post it on the forum. It is basically a .432 diameter variation of the .452-230 HP PB for use in the 44 spl and 44 magnum. With wheelweight alloy should yield a 220 grain bullet with large hollow point and a 240 grain bullet with solid nose pin.

If someone would tutor me on how to post the picture, I will gladly do so.

As for a group buy, I informed Mr. Nelson I would be in for 3 each of the 4 cavity molds.
I would like to see it offered with 3 pins. One for solid, One for large hollow point and One for small hollow point or cup point pin.

      Thanks
      Todd

(edited, to add photo and further description )

The design was “revised” to shorten the nose to crimp slightly. The reason, IF someone were to have Mr. Baker of Freedom Arms to chamber the 97 in 44 mag, it would fit in their cylinder.

I’d be in for one.  Looks like it would be a dandy one to experiment with as part of the “SWC vs. RFN” debate.

Have you seen the 434 230 from his inventory which is almost identical, except for a slightly shorter nose and meplate. Which Iam interested in for my lever gun and it only takes 5 people for a rerun of it.

Seen it, it is similar in weight.
Bullet designs are individualistic as the shooters. Personally, I think this proposed design is a bit more graceful in the nose department, but that’s me.

Thought I’d throw it out there, perhaps it’ll fly.

Like I said in the opening post. I’d be in for three of them

I would definitely try it , if it came a active GB.  I would only be 5, it takes 10 on a new design. I’ll be watching.

What about reducing the size of the groove or splitting it into 2 smaller grooves to get maximum bearing surface.

I’m also looking for a gc version, in order to push it to it’s limit, in a lever gun.

I also would be in for one IF offered in .434″ diameter, and like 1johnlb stated, it becomes an active G.B.

If this doesn’t make it to an active G.B., I would be in for a re-run of the 434-235 RN/FP/HP that 1johnlb mentions.

Either way, I would want an RG-2 cavity PB mold, in brass.(like I NEED another .44 mold! ;))

You can add me to the list for a RG2 aluminum also. The 3 pins menchioned earlier would be my preference also.
I prefer this mold over the other one menchioned. Strictly because of bullet dia.

I would be in for a 2 cav pb solid if that was an option if not an rg2 would be fine in pb.

Perhaps Mr. Nelson would consider a GC version if it is popular.

I’m sure Mr. Nelson could modify the base band for a GC, if the demand calls for it. Truly, a 2+2 mold would be handy for those who would may need both bullet styles.

                                    Sounds good to me too.
