      Hello everyone,

so, I’m very, very new to bullet casting and I’d like to start off by purchasing one of the Noe moulds for a .308. Concretely this one:

      http://noebulletmolds.com/NV/product_info.php?cPath=30&products_id=1848

However, being fairly inexperienced, I’d like to ask, what are these options good for?

      Drill For Probe
      Lyman/RCB/Saeco top punch
      Mold wrench

All I want is to buy the mould, the handles and be happy with it casting my lead bullets. That’s it.

I’ll be re-sizing the bullets on a LEE O press with the LEE Lube & Sizing kit for .308. I’ll be applying the gas check on the very same press, however, I won’t be lubing the bullets traditionally, instead, I’m planning on coating them with an MCC method from Marcus of WiederladerTV (if you haven’t seen his vids, go check them out).

Anyways, being a noob, I’d like to ask you guys for a little help with my first purchase of NOE moulds. I picked NOE specifically for their good reviews, but also because they offer a 5 cavity moulds, which to me sounds like a good time saver (as opposed to dual cavity LEE moulds that I also purchased).

Anyways, thank you for any tips/tricks, cheers.

      – Lukas

Drill for probe has the mould drilled for a thermometer thermo couple.

If you are push through sizing then you will not need the top punches.

The wrench is allen keys for the screws on the mould along with sprue lube which is highly recommended.

If going for a five cavity make sure that your furnace can accommodate that length of block.

What velocities are hoping to get with that coating and what levels of accuracy are you expecting?

Oh, wow, thank you very much, dromia, much appretiated.

As for velocities, I’m looking for hot loads with the MCC coating + gas check installed. It should be fine (I only tested the coating on my .45 ACP loads with great results and I’ve seen many tests online also with great results).
As for accuracy, it is not my priority, but of course the more accurate, the better. However, I’m more of a plinking and defense training guy, so, my top distances are mostly around 30 meters tops. Where accuracy isn’t really a factor.

However, I’m planning on getting an M1A one day (18″ version, though) and for that those 169gr bullets should perform well at 100m to 300m tops. And I expect they will, however, I’d have to test it myself first, of course.

I’ll mostly be using these bullets in my 300 Blackout AR15 build.

By the way, I haven’t tested the size of the furnace we have (together with a friend of mine who’s also an avid reloader), but we have the Lee Pro 4 furnace. Do you think the 5 cavity mould would fit?

The 5 cavity will work with a 4 20 lee pot but you have to run the mold at an angle it will not fit straight on.

Or you can use the mold with the sprue cutter towards the handle.
