Mold for 45 Whitworth | NOE Bullet Moulds

Have a pal with a 45 Whitworth looking for some cast boolits.

Read that many use the Lyman 457121 successfully, but I don’t have one.

I do have the NOE 452 500Gr. RF 1 cavity PP at hand. Could soft-lead cast from this be adapted to serve in the Whitworth, perhaps Paper-Patched and sized back to 453 ?

Anyone been there advise?

Pure Lead, mold set to this size, drops at 463 Grains, double-wrap onionskin wetted with dilute Elmer’s Glue, dried, paper lubed with Matthews’ Lube, sized 452, final polish with a rub with a Chammy Leather soaked in Graphite powder.

452 is the only sizer I have at hand – think this will load?

I would patch to 0.451″ or 0.452″ depending on fit, the bullet should seat with just the weight of the ram rod.

I mainly use the Lyman 451114 sized and lubed to 0.451″ or Helmut Mohr 525 gn mould sized the same if I want to stretch the rifles legs beyond 600 yrds.

Not hollow based, my brass hexagonal mould has the base cupped though.

The Whitworth replica was Dad’s retirement present to himself and it got us into casting. As you can imagine, the Dyson HB mold (slick as it is) is a HELL of thing to learn on. . .

Leon Krannen mould.

How?

Ran about 7 to 6 years ago sold through word of mouth mainly. No longer made I am lead to believe.

As they are no longer made they are collectable going for circa £300.

Dip lubed and loaded as cast dropping a smidgen over 0.451″.

Whitworth was an engineering genius but knew as much about casting bullets as my arse knows about snipe shooting.

Dyson simply tried to copy the Whitworth mould and added no value to its design, shame really as it is a good starting point.

You think the moulds complex, I’d love to see a Whitworth 0.451″ H&I sizing die, now that would be engineering.

Maybe Al would take up the challenge of designing a workable 0.451″ Whitworth grease groove bullet mould along with a 0.441″ plain paper patch version cup based along with a sutable sizing dies.

A modern take on a classic bullet might be just what is needed especially as Pedersoli have just started selling a new Wihtworth rifle.

The standard HI die body is .700 so there would not be much meat left if you made one in .451.

More than enough “meat” there I can assure you.

I have H&I dies up to 0.517″ that function perfectly so more than enough “meat” for a 0.451″ hexagonal bullet.

.517 wow that’s a fatty. Machining it for the Hexagonal boolit would be a challenge.

Pedersoli is also supposed to produce a mold for it but what type I don’t know
