      Hey guys,

I have tried the search engine but came up with powders like Hercules and Unique which for some reason are near impossible to find around here.  I’m casting a 311299 4 Cav with WW.  I also powder coat and GC these.  I am looking to find some suggestions for powder to run these with.  They hated Varget.  4064 had promise but would like to see if there are any other suggestions.

      Thanks for any help,

      Kraken Fan #69

Starting out with jacketed data for the same weight in rifle rounds is usually a recipe for massive frustration.  Best accuracy on Cast is going to come between 1600 and 1900 usually and with powder coating you may be able to push that top number up to 2400 or 2500 with a lot of judicious testing.

Since you don’t mention cartridge I am assuming .308 Win as that is the most likely candidate in the rifle mentioned.
I’d start with 8.5 grains of Red dot or unique if you can find them.  Other good choices would be Accurate 5744 or H4895 or IMR 4895.  Trailboss also has some utility here as it takes a lot of case space for a few grains of powder.

Do not use fillers and be very careful of double charges.

My bet would be on 28gr of H4895.

I have the Lyman 311299 mold and plan on using it for my new 300 blackout project also.I have been using the same mold for my 30-06 deer loads with accurate 5744 and have had really great results. I have the powder on hand and it was listed in my ramshot manual for the caliber. So far the 5744 powder loves the lead 30 cal boolits, so I was going to start there.
I’m still contemplating if I need a new NOE plain base mold also to try the differences.

Beware the long bore-riding nose section of that bullet if powder coating.  If the powder coating is too thick, and bullet is not crimped in good, bad things can happen if the bullet gets pushed back into the case while chambering.
