Howdy from The Great state of Texas!

Trader Dan here and I have a question about a NOE mold I purchase a few months ago.

The mold is a 432 200GR. RF mold. for a 44-40. It is mounted on a NOE mold handle. I used the mold for the first time today and ran into a problem with the mold. I appear the locating studs a VERY tight fit to the holes making the mold very difficult to impossible open. I had to resort to tapping the bolt on the handle to get the front locating stud to release. Even with the mold out of the handle the blocks are difficult to separate.

Is this a common problem with NOE molds? What can I do to fix this problem? I thought about taking some polishing compound like ISSO or JB bore past and coating the stud and working the opposite mold hole around the stud to loosen it up.

      Any ideas?

      TIA!

Have you heat cycled the mold as per the instruction sheet in the box?  This helps the pins seat properly in the moild faces.  Your pins may also be hanging out too far or may have a burr ont them or in the locaring hole.  Check it out under magnification for burrs, not sure how to determine if they are seated out too far, someone may chime in on that.

As has been said make sure you break in the mould as per the instructions.

Next is to use sprue plate lube on the pins, if they are still sticking then they may be protruding too far out an will need carefully tapping back somewhat. If you are not comfortable about doing this if it is necessary then contact Al direct and he will sort it out.

Do not abraid the pins or the holes as if you enlarge them then the blocks can set out of alignment.

I received a phone call from John this morning. He explained the problem to me and I did as he suggested and that fixed the problem. I must admit I did not follow the instructions because I forgot there were instructions. But is not what the problem was.

A very, very small burr in the locating pin hole on the front of the Mold. He instructed me to take some emery and clean the hole up. I did and it appears to work great now. But I will not know for sure until I do more casting.

You mention instructions. I am not sure I received any instructions with my mould. I did get a small bottle of lube but I cannot find the instructions. Are they anywhere on the website? I did  find them here but it might be a good idea to have them posted as a .pdf on the website for folks, like me, who tend to loose paperwork!

I took a photo from one of my molds instruction sheet. Front and back. Take care Sir.
