In my experience, and from what others have indicated, bullets cast from the NOE Pritchett molds are accurate, in both diameters, with and without base plugs. Some of us would like to have base plugs for the Pritchetts that sit flush with the bullet bases, instead of the proud fit of the current plugs. This is more historically correct. I know this spurred discussion before the bullet molds were manufactured… there seems to be little to no records that I have found of clay or wood plugs causing bullet separations/lead rings, as had occurred with the 1851 iron cupped bullet. If there is enough response, would it be possible to cut some new plug molds that seat the plugs flush? Would want them to be full cavity depth, or close to it, in the existing base cavities, just slightly smaller in dimensions in order to be flush seated to the bullet base.

I’d definitely be interested in a Pritchett plug mold for plugs that fit flush with the base of the bullet. Ideally, they would be the same height of plug overall, but of correspondingly smaller overall dimensions so that it sits flush with the bullet base instead of slightly protruding. In other words, a plug like the historic originals.

I too would back up the above posts. The plug plate is excellent other than it producing plugs that protrude from the base of the bullet. The original plugs were flush when seated.
The only time that there were separation issues was with the pressed iron cup of the Pattern 1851 and first trials of the same in the Pattern 1853. When they changed to boxwood, and later clay, plugs the problem was entirely solved. They were making 60 million of these a year from just the government factory. Never mind the commercial trade and foreign makers so the wood and the clay plugs were found safe in hundreds of millions of rounds.

I would be interested. With the NOE Christmas discount code I was able to get the .550 Pritchett mold but the Base Plug Mold was out of stock. If any of you gentleman would sell me a few of the base plugs you have made so I can try make a copy of them I sure would appreciate it. I sure hope Al will make some more of the Base Plug Molds.
