For all of you who are wondering how to powder coat bullets, here is a short video I made that shows how to easily powder coat bullets.  If you have any questions, let me know.

This appears to be fast and simple. Somewhere I saw today that some casters who were powder coating were applying a second coat. Is that necessary?

I rarely put a second coat on.

For those who shake bullets and powder coating in a container with air soft BBs, don’t do that with hollow points. Guess how I found that out! Checked them before shaking with powder coat and all seemed good, no signs of the BBs sticking in the hollow point cavities, but with the powder it was a different story. That sucked big time, definitely not fast and easy! Maybe it would work out with smaller bullets with smaller cavities, but with HTC502-325-FN hollow points, not so good.

That might be because that you are most probably using a normal 6 mm (240 Dia) pellet, in your application with the afore mentioned HP HCT cast product.

According to the NOE design drawing …  your HP major diameter is .250 …

One possibility is to try to switch to an 8 mm pellet which tends to be larger than your HP diameter … or ~ .314 diameter.

That should basically be too big to get stuck inside your HP noses… & should easily show up before baking as part of your normal PC inspection process.

Your call on how you wish to proceed…

You are correct Mike, they were 6mm BBs. I did a second coat without any airsoft BBs and that worked much better. But now I’m thinking gluing a BB in the cavity after powder coating and doing a bullet expansion comparison with and without an airsoft BB in the HP. I am cursed with more ideas than time to try them!

How else does one learn except by experimentation … accidents sometimes produce new break throughs in cast product… it will be interesting to hear back what you have learned on this subject… 6MM or 8MM or not…

Hopefully the addition of the 6MM air-soft ball will not make the OAL of the HP too long for the cartridge that you may decide to load the cast product into…
