I finally got a chance to take my winter project out for a spin today…. I did a quick test and sighting with the 27.4 gr. HP version of my Bob’s Boattail from NOE, and I had 14 bullets left over, so I thought I would see how they worked on Ground Squirrels and Marmots…. They hit a TON !!! …. Here is a typical exit wound on a Marmot, this one at 50 yards…. Unless they are sitting right on their hole, or fall down inside a pile of logs, my recovery rate is WAY higher with the BBT HP than with a pellet….

The gun spits these out at about 980 fps (58 FPE), and they shoot about a 1″ group at 50 yards…. I haven’t really done any tuning, I tried three settings on the barrel tension and settled on 1-1/4 turns of compression on the Bellevilles for now…. Out of the 14 shots, I got 7 Marmots and 5 GS, with 2 misses on Marmots at 60-70 yards…. The longest kill was 65 yards…. Here are the ones I recovered…. two of each made their holes….

One of the GS was a head on shot at about 40 yards, and I decided to take him between the front shoulders to see what happened…. It was the loudest THWACK I have ever heard, tossed him in the air in a ball of spray, and the HP exited just above the tail after travelling the full length of his body…. Very impressive energy dump…. Most of the others were head shots, both sideways, and front to back, all were passthroughs, with a lot of blood and/or tissue on the exit side….

I’m very impressed with this gun…. I still had 2000 psi on the gauge, from a 2900 psi fill, so the pressure had not dropped below the setpoint (the gauge is in the plenum)…. Since the mags are 10 shot, it makes sense to simply top off the reservoir each time you fill the mag…. The gun is fairly quiet, with the vented tensioning system, a big difference from my .257 Monocoque I shot the last time out….

        Greetings.
My congratulations for your hunting buna and your precious air rifle. I seem to recognize part of a Crosman 2400 ?.
