I cast some new boolits a few days ago using the small hole 452-230-hp brass rg2 mold. I was going to run another set of tests using my 45acp 1911.
After I followed the proper break in and heat cycle/ smoke procedures I was pretty impressed with my first 2 pills that dropped were nearly perfect ( a few very minor wrinkles). That was a first for me, as I normally always have 4 or 5 bad ones to start any casting session. The stars and planets must have been aligned perfectly, 😏 , because it was a great day.
I did drop my pot temp down a bit to right at 750 degrees F and was using an alloy mixture (lyman #2/pure lead) right around bhn 9-10. All boolits were air cooled.
The samples I weighted prior to powder coating all were 229-230 grains using the large pins provided.
After powder coating samples weighted 231-233 grains.
The last photo I took was of the bases to show a better shot of the look it has using the silicon mat and base down.
The last photo I took from another mold did not quite show the base correctly. With the red color you can see better that the bases are completely covered. The black specks is just some paint transfer from another set I did earlier using the mirror black powder coat.
The bases are not shiny but more like a flat or primer color. Just does not have that gloss the rest of the boolit does. I hope that helps explain it better for those interested.
Going to load up some using the ramshot silouhette since I had such great results using the other loads. I’ll have a range report hopefully this weekend. It’s been unbearably hot here lately and as much as I do love to target shoot, over a hundred outside is my limit.
Happy Friday folks
