There’s currently a group buy for a 500gr bullets very similar to this but that’s just way more than I need. Any interest in a 300-315gr version of that mold?  I just came into a Marlin 1895 that I’d love a slick sided mold for.

Forgive my ignorance.  A 300gr HTC boolit would be mainly for plinking/target shooting?  I would love to pick up a 45-70 lever in the near future just  for plinking.

          Yes I would like one.
Do you thing we could make it lighter than 300, say 250 and still get it to shoot?

hollow point? how wide of meplat? What options do we want for it?  Or do we want to just take a ranch dog design and cut out the grooves?

KB – I’d be fine going down to 250 if that’s what it takes to get this buy off the ground.

Cornmastah – I was thinking of just removing the lube grooves from this mold. Personally I wouldn’t be interested in a hollowpoint, but others might. Anything I’d be hunting with this mold would be big enough to make a big soft-cast flat point preferable to a HP anyway. Would it be any trouble for you to draw up a 250 or 270gr sketch?

                Tzzler,
That’s a good bullet to do mould of, I think if we cut the nose length back to around .300 and keep the bearing length we should meet the weight we are after, just my 2 cents, what do you think?

Well if we cut the nose length back and leave all else the same that bullet would be making a mighty long jump to the land&grooves in the barrel. This won’t be a match bullet by any means but I’d still like it to be relatively accurate.

what about something like this?  Or are you wanting to go smaller?  If you go too small the bullet will be quite stubby and will probably not be as stable at farther distances.  Just remember that we lose length as we take out lube grooves and try to keep the same weight (sometimes this is good, sometimes it isn’t).

I’d be really happy with something like that.

I think the overall bearing length is good and like how it finishes out in front of the crimp groove but wonder what it would be like if the meplat was around .250, would like to reduce the weight a tad as 315 is to close to my other NOE mould.

That’s fine by me too. Closer to a true 300gr with straight COWW would be awesome

So reduce the nose weight a tad by shrinking down the meplat?

Aw, BC went down :( I’m not going to be able to make those super duper snipah shots.

                                    Looks good to me!
