This isn’t a forum question, but wasn’t sure where else to ask. I’ve got the gas check expander set-up and have set the lock ring on the expander body to a point where the gas check is flared just enough after one full stroke on the press to start on the cast bullet’s shank.

The problem is the checks are getting stuck on the expander tight enough that it takes me prying with both thumbnails under the bottom edge of the gas check to get them off the expander.

I’ve got imperial die wax but i think lubricating the inside of the gas checks would be a dumb idea.

Maybe annealing the copper would make them easier to get off the expander?

So after talking to Al today I chucked a wad of 0000 steel wool in a drill and spun it against the expander for a few minutes. Al had suggested chucking the expander into a drill and spinning it against the wool but the chuck on my cordless drill wasn’t big enough to accommodate it.

After polishing all the way around the expander with the wool spinning parallel with the longitudinal axis of the expander the gas checks just lift right off the expander, not one stuck in the 10 i’ve tried since polishing.

        Thanks Al!
