a friend of mine read an article in Handloader magazine from like 2005 or 2006 that talked about some really heavy 300 gr 45 acp loads.  He really wants to get a bullet mold made, so I drew up a bullet.  The bullet has a rebated boat tail to add weight but not bulge the brass too far down.  Suggestions are welcome too.

Do you think the boattail would hold in my 450 also a hp would be pretty mean in this configuration.

Not sure, how fast do you think you’d try to push it?  A hollow point would be cool, but then you’d lose weight depending on how big/deep you’d want the hp to be.

I don’t shoot much .45 ACP but this might be fun.  Should fit my 45 Colt and be easy to cast, might play nice for light 460 loads too.  I’d take a 4 or 5 cavity mold.

would having the hollow point lose the round nose option?  Haven’t seen RN pins on the RG molds for a while.

The more I think abiut this, the more i want to try it.  Got a Hi Point for testing.  This design should be a lot easier and safer to work up loads for than other heavy .45’s.  Bearing surface and boattail should be very similar to the old commercial offerings for 300-grain 45 ACP.

Also got a hipoint to test it in.  I think it should feed fine in any 45 acp firearm though, due to the nose design.
