Had this in the wrong topic. Moved it here.
I see there is a one cav 340-265-FP-P6, which I’m picking up, but I was hoping for a 5 cav (or 4 cav brass). PB, as this would be sub-sonic in my application. Anybody else interested?

I’m working on a 338 Spectre, which is a subsonic round. SBR.com still has barrels, ch4d.com has dies and starlinebrass.com has 10mm magnum brass on backorder. Any interest?

My mistake, the 265g is for the 338 Whisper #1 (which is for the AR10, the #2 is for the AR15). This upper has a custom cut GM 338 barrel and uses hand made brass from 308 Win cases, necked down with a KM neck trimmer.

Ok, Ill bite… Where did you get or find the dies for your whisper #2 … let alone the #1?

SSK didn’t seem to have a page for that intel …  Though from a quick search I could possibly have missed it…

It also is not quite clear whether forming dies will also be needed for #2 on what appears to be a straight walled case or whether the normal sizing die will be sufficient once the neck is removed from the parent case.

#1 will most probably need forming dies to convert 223 parent case to a Whisper #1…

I did find an article on the internet that may or may not be relevant in aiding you & others in your endeavors…  In the article it appears to show a straight wall case with a target group… about half way down the article… the article also has some load data near the end… ”

I recommend unchecking the background graphics to get a full clean pdf of the afore mentioned article… on the subject…

            http://www.lasc.us/rangingshot338whisperrevisited.htm

It also appears that from the very few images that I could find that the #2 appears to be a straight walled case that may appear to headspace on the cartridge case OAL…

It might also help if one had a link to the 7mm benchrest cartridge case that is mentioned in one or two places on the internet… as the parent case for the #2…

It might also be relevant that the #2 is apparently built up on the larger AR10 (308) action & not the smaller AR15 (223) system… the Whisper #1 is apparently built on the smaller AR 15 action…

Or are you planning the build on a Thompson pistol platform…

Apparently it may be that the cast bullet that you are looking to get a new run of will work for both #1, & #2 applications… Both being strictly subsonic applications…

Which hopefully may be of use in gathering support for your new run of cast moulds,  at this point in the game…

Below is the link to the NOE 340-265-FP page…

Hi Mike B. I had the #2 and #1 switched in my original post. It should be square now.
I ordered a 338 Whisper #1 resizing die chamber reamer from Pacific Tool & Gauge and cut the die from some 1018 steel rod I had. The cases were annealed after the initial cut then the tops were run through a few of Al’s bullet sizing bushings  to get them close to size before being run through the full length sizer. I cut the necks with the KM, do a light annealling  then size them again. Needless to say I don’t have too many of these cases.

You could probably order a set of dies from ch4d.com also but you’re looking at a wait time in months.

Ok, Thanks for the updated intel.

I’ll most probably be looking for more intel on this subject…

I sincerely hope that this exchange in postings helps you in your endeavor for a new run of 340-265 FP.

Note that the 338 Whisper #1 isn’t the only application for this bullet. It would be great for any 338 cartridge which works well with a heavier bullet.
