How about some 0.177″ pellet designs.

I am in sore need of an accurate dome head mould for my 1903 Lincoln Jefferies for Bell Target shooting and an accurate wad cutter for my Feinwerkbau 80 Match pistol.

Not to mention pellets for my GAT gun.

        dromia

We cant grind the tool that small.
It cant be any bigger than the smallest diameter.
So the tool cant be any bigger than the waist of the pellet (.102).

While NOE can’t make pellets in .177 cal, they do have a couple of bullets that are suitable for high powered PCPs that have been rebarreled to the PB size of 0.172″…. TJ’s make a barrel in that caliber with a 9″ twist, which is perfect for them…. While this means “custom” guns only, the results are quite spectacular…. One of the best known airgunners on the GTA, Cedric (tofazfou) converted a Marauder using that barrel, and it spits out .172 cal HPs of 26 gr. at 980 fps, with sub MOA accuracy at 100 yards…. He is using this bullet (without the gas check)….

NOE now also have a shorter version of that, without the gas check stub, a couple of grains lighter….

I just received moulds for both, and have a barrel on order…. Looks like a great combination…. Note these bullets are too small for .177 airguns barrels, and they are much to slow a twist rate anyways…. You must use a fast twist, 0.172″ barrel….

That is a shame Al, LEM do (did) a 177 mould but it is pretty crap.

Bob I was just looking for a mould for my existing airguns not wanting to go down the bespoke route. Just wanting feed my low powered guns, I don’t think my bell target is up for more than 8ft/lbs.

Wadcutters do enough damage as it is.

dromia, I figured you were looking for a pellet, I wanted to give the option is all….

Al, perhaps we could increase the diameter of the waist, so that the tool could be stronger…. The current .22 cal. and larger designs use a 75% of caliber waist, which in .177 would be 0.132″…. Of course that means the waist of the TOOL would be smaller, due to the difference in diameter between the waist and the head of the pellet…. I figure the waist of the tool would have to be 0.087″….  😮

What is the smallest diameter for the waist of the tool that you think would live?…. How about 1/8″ at the narrowest point?…. That would leave a waist of about 86% of the head diameter, at about 0.152″…. The heaviest JSP pellets (13.4 and 16 gr.) are larger than that at about 0.165″, because of the cylindrical mid-body…. I looked at the .172 cal. 26 gr., and the diameter of the lube groove is only 0.146″ (85% of caliber)….

On the other hand, if dromia is after light pellets, under 8 gr. or so…. this idea is probably not possible…. Still, it might be a way to cast heavy pellets in .177 cal…. A Magnum Hunter in .177 would be 13 gr…. and heavier with a larger waist….
