So I’m having a bunch of parts, barrels, and frames black nitrided. I’ve done this more than a few times before with great results. This time I decided to throw in a NOE steel mold and sprue plate. We’ll see if it’s destroyed, improved, or makes no difference. What’s your bet? I suspect it will just come out cool looking and that’s about it. If anyone’s interested I’m going to pick them up on the 10th They’ll be done sooner but that’s when I can run up and get them.

We used to do all our sprue plates.
But have changed over to a teflon powder coat.

Are you doing the inside of the cavities too, or just the outside of the mold?

I’m having them do the Full Monte, outside and inside. I’ll be picking it up the 10th of this month.

Me too! I called H&M and they confirmed the parts are all done. I will be picking them up tomorrow. One thing I’ll have to do is run the mold, and the rest of the parts, through my ultrasonic cleaner. When I get parts back from being “Nitrided” they are thoroughly saturated with oil. I’ll definitely be using Dawn and acetone on it. Of course, after that rust will never be a problem…assuming it will still cast bullets instead of just dropping blobs of lead.

I picked up my parts Friday including the mold. As usual, everything looks perfect. The only thing you have to watch out for is that crud hasn’t built up in blind holes. It’s easily removed with a slow drill. I think it’s actually salt.
