All of the round barrel Rossi R92s are drilled and tapped for the Rossi scout scope mount. Unfortunately, the Rossi base has been unavailable for at least a year now. I recently sent Al a base so that he could reverse engineer the required barrel contour and taper along with the mount hole alignment.  I also suggested that he use picatinny spacing rather than the random Weaver slot spacing so that the base could be used for other sight options.

There is no doubt that NOE can build a better mount than Rossi. There is quite a bit of interest in the NOE mount on my Rossi-Rifleman forum and I will start directing that interest here so that Al can estimate the demand and whether the product is financially feasible or not.

If you are interested in a NOE Rossi 92 Scout Scope Picatinny Rail, please express your interest here!

Not sure where those captkeys came from but I had to go through about six of them before I got one that was legible.

The two rails I ordered last Wednesday night were in my mailbox this morning. All I can say at first glance is these things are way to nice in craftsmanship for a Rossi :)

Thank You Mr. Nelson, You made a bunch of Rossi Riflemen extremely happy!

My stainless mount arrived while I was on a whitetail hunt up in Wyoming with my 92 in .45 Colt. The mount looks really beautiful. However, the forward third of the mount does not fit the radius of my barrel; the rear 2/3ds seems to match the curve of the barrel but the radius of the forward third  of the mount is greater than the radius of my barrel.
                          My 92 is from 2013.
Would it be proper to “fill” the gap under the mount with epoxy? I could use release agent on the barrel so that the epoxy only adhered to the underside of the mount.
                          Has anyone else experienced this?

Shouldn’t need epoxy – but use it if you think it needs it.

Thanks Al. We often pass through the Provo area on our way to SLC. Some day I’d like to visit your operation. Roger

Should go without saying but the real place you want to make sure you don’t get any epoxy is the mount holes in the barrel.

I’m late getting back to this thread but my 3 (2 natural and 1 black) came in.
Packaging was in great shape. Just took me a week or so more than it should have to pick them up since my bud where I had them shipped was in the middle of having his windows replaced and he put them up during the renovations.

The taper of the barrel quickly departs the horizontal in this area, the NOE mount is identical in fit to that of the Rossi. Here is a picture of a Rossi base on my 45 Colt. You can see that it has been epoxied in place.

                                    scoutscope_08.jpg

This was my first R92, a “-002” Scout model from the factory which I had significant issues with the Rossi base coming loose under recoil. The Rossi base had problems that kept in from remaining secure:

[*]The Rossi base is painted so no matter how tight you got it, the paint would wear at the contact points; barrel and inside the screw holes, and as the paint crumbled the base would loosen.[*]The Rossi base aluminum stock hadn’t been anodized, it was softer than required for the application. I’m also certain that the Rossi base stock is not a quality grade of aluminum.[*]The Rossi screws are too short, they only allow three thread revolutions of engagement.[/list]
All of these issues have been corrected with the NOE Mount so I cannot picture the need to epoxy the base to the rifle and I wouldn’t unless you have an issue. The epoxy definitely is a permanent solution but you should be very confident with your decision that you want the rifle to remain a scout.

I have three Marlin’s dressed up with the XS Sight & Scout Base. That base drops away from the barrel in the same manner As does the B-Square base on my two Savage 10FCM Scouts.

As a note the Rossi bases for the Circuit Judge, Rio Grande, and Single Shots suffer through the same poor quality issues.
