      Hello world!

I wonder if anyone could help me. I have Thompson/Center Contender, used of course. It’s in 30 WCF aka 30-30. I bought a basic 170 grain mold just to get started. Problem, that bullet wont fit the throat at all. The case is left sticking out almost a 1/4 inch. I have been trying to learn more and apparently the Contender throats can be bit of a problem. I was hoping to learn the gun a bit before I bought a serious mold.  Oh well.

I have heard that the mold I bought makes a “bore rider” bullet. When I bought the basic mold I also bought some blemished 170 grain HP boat-tails. I used those and a recipe I got from the makers of the magic bang powder at Hodgdon. It’s a sub-sonic recipe. Those HP bullets fit just fine.

So I wonder which NOE mold would be about 170 grains and fit in the throat of that gun?

Like the 311-174-FN-AQ5 or the HTC310-177-SP-BL2.

Or should I just tell them my problem in the order form and we adjust the design so that the nose wont touch the throat?

      Well, thanks for listening.

      Adam

You might wish to slug the barrel & make a chamber cast … It almost sounds like you need to size the cast products  nose down a bit … to get the cartridge to chamber… all cartridges and chambers,…  are not alike… You also did not appear to mention what alloy that you are using.  the harder the alloy utilized the larger the cast product will be … Now in regard to a new design especially to fit that particular cartridge you may wish to also find a total of 10 other individuals who would also want a new mould design to your particular specifications… to make it fit your particular firearm…  If you find others that can recommend a specific load and bullet combination then by all means check the data out… Your seating depth will also affect your load and the pressure it tends to create when you fire the round … All custom cast bullet designs by definition are not make to fit all the firearms out in the field … Thus … you might wish to find out what the dimensions of your cartridge, barrel dimensions and chamber are… and think about sizing accordingly… to fit your chamber …

        Take Care, & Stay Safe…

below are Several links to NOE website & the cast bullet history … that my be of use to you… In that regard…
