I am very pleased with this design in my Diamondback Arms 300 blackout.  The nose diameter is smaller than the lee 155 tapered nose as designed by Harris and it feeds and functions slick as anything.  My initial function test was 15.3 gr of H110 with the bullet crimped in the middle of the front driving band.  Perfect.  I plan on conducting some accuracy testing in the next few weeks as soon as I get a good scope mounted.  In the meantime, I thought I would post up with this positive information and see if anyone else had been using this design with success.

I have that mould and have shot it some.  I’ve also provided bullets to a couple of other 300BO shooters and the comments are positive.  Yes, the nose profile is slimmer than the Lees, and it does carry more lube.  From data that I have from other bullet designs and H110, I’ll guess your 15.3gr will chrono 1850-1875fps.

Thanks Excess.  I do have a chrony and plan on evaluating that as well if accuracy meets standards.  The Harris tapered nose design theoretically should have the accuracy edge since it self-guides into the rifling.  That said, theories are just that.

I use 15.1gr of H110 with this boolit and get 1805 from a 16″ bbl. Of note is that I get the exact same velocity from the NOE 358-150 GC and 15.1/H110 using an 18.5″ Ruger 77/357.

I wanted to add another report.  A friend and his wife came over to shoot, and they ran 50 of my loads through their S&W with zero problems.  Up to that point they had been buying factory loads, so only about 40 rounds downrange prior.  They had a ball.  A few loads were fired at dusk to determine how big a fireball the load produced.  Subjectively it was much less than rifle rounds such as .223 or .308, and arguably a reasonable choice for home defense at night.

Based on the fired brass (flattened primers, no other issues) I would say that 15.3 gr H110 was about as warm as I would like to go in their gun.  Subsequent reloading of that brass found no loose primer pockets or other issues.  Anyone wanting to try this load should really start at 15.0 gr or slightly under and test in their gun for function.  This is my opinion only, and you assume all risks etc. etc etc.  When firing this load in my gun, the primers were noticeably less flattened, with rounded edges.

Still no accuracy testing (funds short for suitable scope), but if nothing else this design is the cat’s meow for plinking.  I suspect it is better than that but without data . . . :)

Just bumping this up to see if anyone else has done anything with more with this design.  I still have no scope for this rifle but I am getting closer.  I also have 300 rounds loaded up for when I finally get one, and several hundred more boolits cast and sized for loading.

I need to cast up a batch and give ’em a serious try.

I recently bought the plain base mold and cast up a few.  I will try to do some testing soon.  As far as powders to play with, I have 1680, h110/296, 4227, and 5744.  If anybody knows of some starting loads for the listed powders, let me know.

I finally got a 2 x 7 leupold on my gun and did some testing.  I immediately ran into trouble with some difficulty chambering on occasion.  It appears that my rifle has a very tight throat, so much so that if the nose of the bullet is at all bigger than bore diameter, it causes problems.  I did manage to fire some for group and despite the truly atrocious trigger, sub 2.5″ 3 shot groups at 100 yards were consistently easy to come by, even some I filed a flat nose on.  It’s a good starting point.  I will have to address my barrel issue though.
