I have been watching for a .32 Lyman round nose bullet mold for years on that auction site.  They seem to go for quite a tidy sum of money.

And I have considered springing for a Saeco #321 95 grain round nose mold.

But I would rather give my money to Al, and get a brand new aluminum 4 cavity mold in return.

I have a bunch of .32 molds, but not a single round nose.  I need to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

Just checking to see whether there are others out there that might need to fill that void as well.

It sure would be nice to load some 32 S&W Longs or 32 H&R mags with some old fashion round nose bullets.

Just a note to say that since this apparently will be a new mould design that NOE has apparently not made before.

NOTE: If I somehow missed it in the current offerings or the bullet dimension historical data base I do apologize.

If I am correct that this is indeed a new mould design you will need at least 9 more individuals to say that they also want that mould,& to firmly commit to the group buy to get this 32 caliber 95 Grain cast bullet mould onto the group buy listing from the discussion listing.

If the mould had been previously made by NOE, & is simply out of stock you would only need approximately five new requests to basically get an our of stock mould considered for a production listing, if history still holds true…

I wish you Good Luck in getting this mould into the group buy category.

Hopefully one of the administrators will do up a drawing for the members to look at with dimensions on it.

Do you have any preferred dimensions on your requested 32 caliber 95 grain RN design… or is what you have posted it?

Since this is basically a start from scratch mould design… dwg…

Is there anything else other than a 95 grain round nose 32 that you want to note as details for someone to make up a drawing to?

SAECO unfortunately does not really list dimensions of their cast drawings so to get anything close to what you posted will need some additional intel to produce a similar drawing.

A dimensional bullet design sketch can be approximated by graphing your rough Saeco attachment sketch, and approximating those dimensions prior to going to the cast bullet design software to prepare a drawing…

However that intel as it stands would only be an educated SWAG guesstimate depending on the actual accuracy of your sketch…

The cast bullet weight is easy… The AS CAST dia & some of the other overall dimensions that you want will want & need, will need to be defined and if there is to be a crimp grove… where do you want it located…?

I do have basically the same software that NOE has… & there is no certainty that if I draw up something for you that NOE will cut a cherry to make the mould unless you get at least 9 others to commit to the mould buy…

            Mike,

            Merry Christmas!

And thank you very much for generously spending your time on Christmas eve to draw up the bullet that I had asked about.

What you have drawn would be perfect for what I would like to have made.

I do realize that I would need 9 others to join me in this request.  We did manage to draw quite a few people’s interest in the NOE Ranch Dog group buy discussion forum earlier in the year for the .32 115gr tumble lube RF design, although evidently not enough to get something off the ground.

If I had the money, I would be tempted to buy 10 molds myself to get this running.  I am certain I could sell the other 9 molds over time.  The Saeco mold design that I had inserted in the opening post sells for $115 for a 2 cavity mold.  And the used Lyman .32 caliber round nose molds go for quite a bit of money on the auction site.  It seems ridiculous to spend that much, when for a comparable amount of money you could get an NOE first class, brand new, multi cavity aluminum mold instead.  That is the thought process that encouraged me to make this post.

I know there are a lot of .32 caliber revolver fans out there.  Most people want a heavier bullet, or a hunting type design for their 327 mags.  I already have molds that fit that bill.  I would just like a classic round nosed bullet for casual and informal shooting at steel plates and paper targets.  I had Accurate Molds make me two different .32 molds based loosely on Lyman designs.  I love the molds, but Tom can’t make a true round nose.  And looking at the beautiful 358311 round nose that Al produced, just makes me want an NOE .32 version even more.

I am hoping that there may be others who would like something similar too.  Thanks again for making the drawing.  The drawing will definitely improve the odds of people becoming interested in this mold.

Are you sure that you are totally good with what you see and do want the diameter as cast to be .312?
I drew up what I thought you might like since I do not have a SAECO of that particular number in my library.
I based the drawing on the rough sketch of the SAECO cast bullet that you posted.
Your thoughts on a slightly larger diameter like .315 diameter might allow for those that have 32-20s to become interested, please.
Several of the older 32 calibers tend to be .315s vs .312s.
So I do not know whether the older SAECO is a .312 or .315 mould design.
I just thought that I would ask.
I can draw up a .315 version… if you so choose… and post it on this forum string.
I would guesstimate that it will be several grains heavier, but still well within that cast bullet weight range.
Several of the group buy moulds have a couple of diameters offered as incentives for attracting those interested.

                Mike,

I would indeed prefer a larger diameter, and .315 would be better so that it can be sized down to .314.

But I didn’t want to trouble you to spend time with the drawing again, unless there was some interest shown by others.  But you are right, more options generally boost interest levels in these types of threads.

I have quite a few .32 revolvers.  Most have throats around .314.  My old S&W hand ejectors are .314, my Ruger Single Seven is .314, my Uberti Model P Jr in 32 H&R and 32-20 are .314 for both cylinders.  Only my newer Ruger DA .327 mag revolvers are smaller in the throats.

And you mentioned 32-20.  I just loaded some 32-20 rounds this week for my Uberti P Jr.  The OAL would be at about max for that revolver with .295″ from crimp groove to the top of the bullet.  So I think the location of the crimp groove on your bullet design would work in all of my revolvers.

I was hoping for a round nosed design, with a good solid crimp groove, a solid base and decent sized lube groove.  I think your proposed design fills the bill on all of those things.

I am not a bullet designer nor am I an expert on bullet design.  So I would defer to others with such talents on any other aspect of your design.

I want this type of bullet purely for nostalgic reasons.  I realize that a round nose is probably the least useful type for most people.  But I enjoy loading round nosed bullets in my 38 special and 44 special revolvers and would like to have a similar design for my .32 caliber ones too.

Thanks again for your help with this.

So let it be written so let it be done.
OBTW the SAECO mould design is a .313 diameter.
I found that after my last posting…
I tend to prefer the .315 diameter myself

Looking at a superimposed bullet with a 32-20 case it appears that the cast bullets as currently shown will be about .025 over the maximum length of 1.592 COAL.

If you like I will shorten the nose by about .030 and add that dimension to the seating depth.

That will make the exposed nose drop from .295 to .265 & the seating depth increase to .285 from .255.

The Max SAAMI cartridge overall COAL for the 32-20 is 1.592 – 1.315 =.277.

That should basically guarantee that the 32-20 loaded in a rifle or a revolver cylinder should be theoretically be within the SAAMI spec.

Please Look at your numbers for the other cartridges that you are interested in and see if that seems like a plan to you.

If you are good to go I will endeavor to amend the .315 96 Gr dwg with an updated version.

At the rate that this is progressing you may only need 8 more to move this discussion into the next category email string.

                      Mike,

The bullet I loaded into the 32-20 cases this week was .29 in length from the crimp groove to the top of the bullet.  This is one of the molds that I had Tom at Accurate Molds catalog for me.  It works perfectly in all my .32 Long, .32 H&R and 32-20 revolvers.  I have attached a shot of it in my 32-20 cylinder for my Uberti P Jr.  It is about maximum length in that cylinder.

So shortening the exposed nose just a hair may be a wise thing to do.  I doubt anyone would load the round nose bullet for a rifle with a tube magazine, but the one I loaded this week fits in my Savage 23C bolt action rifle magazine and cycles just fine.

Thanks again for the assistance – and have a wonderful Christmas day.

                      Harold

                        Ok
Here is a slightly shortened design version for you to look at with .315 Dia and an exposed nose length of .265, with a seating depth of .275.

I shortened the cast bullet design .010 overall to keep the cast bullet weight at 95 Grains.

Otherwise with the shorter nose, & a .285 SD the cast bullet weight went up to 98 Grains with a smushed nose look.

This amendment should now theoretically be safely within SAAMI Spec for the 32-20 cartridge for any revolver that is currently in production or the originals that may not have had cylinders that were longer than SAAMI Specs.

It should also help with the other 32 caliber cartridges COALs that this cast bullet can be utilized for.

Those changes also made the cast bullet look much closer to the original SAECO Design format.

I think that it is a good idea to make sure that any revolver cylinders do not have to depend on the manufacturers to make the longer COAL cast bullets fit.

Better for the others that may be interested in this mould also… Let me know what you think…
