412-218-SWC Checking interest in this bullet

This has been the most accurate bullet in my .41 Magnums! I can recommend this design highly, as the molds, when run, will cast the same bullet design I’ve used since 1983 per Elmer Keith’s advice.

Cant speak for 376Steyr but for myself the standard deep pin option, standard shallow pin option and flat tip pin. Just the three standard pin options. david

So while on the NOE web site I went to the sites store and pulled up the drawings for the 412-224-SWC (412459 Lyman clone) and the 412-237-SWC Keith moulds to see how the original Hensley and Gibbs #258 (412-218-SWC) compares. The #258 has the smallest meplat at .250″ or 60.7% this is close to the 412459 clone with .255″ or 61.9% the Keith meplat runs .310″ or a bit over 70%. I found it some what surprising that there was an all most 10% increase between the #258 and the Keith over the course of a decade and a half. The H&G mould also cast the shortest bullet at .748 inch again this is close to the 412459 clone at .749 inch over all and the Keith mould almost a tenth of an inch longer at .756 inch LOA. Oddly enough the #258 mould has the longest nose length (as measured from the top of the crimp groove to the end of the bullet in the drawings) at .413″ the 412459 is .399″ and the Keith shortest at .396″. There is a fair bit of difference in the ballistic coefficient between the moulds. The 412459 is lowest at .1700 followed by the Keith at .2013 and the highest is the H&G #258 at .2305.  The center of gravity varies but is still similar. Looking at the three moulds in comparison it’s clear that they are variations on a theme. The thing that that stands out most in my mind is how dissimilar the H&G 258 and the 412-237-SWC Keith are though. They were both designed with the input of Elmer Keith but with a decade and a half between them. I’m looking forward to playing with this mould as quality 41 caliber moulds are to few and far between.
