      First post, go easy on me boys.  ;D
      I recently picked up an H&R Buffalo Classic for grins and chuckles use. Of course it has a tall front sight. I replaced the rear sight with a Weaver TK model and it will zero with my standard .45-70 hunting load, the NOE /RD 360gr bullet at @1,950 fps. Now that’s from an 18″ Guide Gun so who knows what it’s doing from the Buffalo Classic’s barrel. I will say their recoil is stout.  I tried some 500gr bullets from a Lee mold. Accuracy was poor, recoil was stout and the rifle would need the short front sight to zero.

      I also have a Lee 405 grain mold that is pleasant enough to shoot and fairy accurate over a smidge of Alliant 2400. Now I’m thinking that a better mold might be:

      And I’m leaning toward the gas check flavor mold since these will be used in a half dozen different rifles.
      Does anyone use the 405gr mold and how do the bullets shoot at around 1,500fps?

        I use that 405 gr mold quite a bit.  Mine casts out about 385ish gr but works great.  I’m using it with about 28 gr of 5744 and have had pretty good success.  I powder coat mine instead of using traditional lube.  A few months ago we were shooting steel plates at about 300 yards with a marlin cowboy rifle and a rear ladder sight.  I have also used it with about 13 gr unique with success for a lighter load.

            Try your 405’s with 45 gr. Acc 2015.  That’s about a 1600 fps load and my Knight single shot shoots them well.

              I used Accurate 2015 in some filling loosening 430gr loads for my Guide Gun.  They were very accurate.  I’ll give it a try in the Buffalo Classic. Thanks for reminding me.

                I purchased the four cavity gas check version of this mold during the recent sale.  Swede ships stuff so fast it’s amazing.

                Followed the break in directions, started pouring straight wheel weight metal and was rewarded with pretty bullets dropping out of the mold without a fuss.  They weigh right at 390gr. Let them set for a week, sized, checked, lubed with BAC and loaded over a Trapdoor load of 8208XBR.

                Fired thru my Buffalo Classic and my Guide Gun and I couldn’t be happier.  I may have time to take a doe with one before the season ends.  8)

                  Glad to hear.  The 45-70 is pretty fun and amazing cartridge to load and shoot.  I’ve recently been playing with a 350 gr mold and casting some hard bullets and coating them.  I’ve been pushing them around 1850ish fps.  Man, they sure hit stuff hard.
