Participant::I have a newbie question hopefully someone can answer. Does the hollow point mold also make 230 grain round nose ? Or just hollow points? Before I commit , I wanted to make sure I was getting the correct one. Thank you. I was not sure which one was correct for 45 acp. The large or small hole and what the difference was, other than the obvious. Thank you again for the questions.

Participant::I have the RG2 version of this mold and it makes a flat point that weighs around 255-260 grains if you don’t use the hp pins. I bought a different mold to use for flat points though, it’s just a lot easier than messing with the pins.
I use the hp’s mostly for 45 acp, but have also shot them in a 45/410 contender with no trouble. I just use a different sizer, but I’m no expert on that stuff. I powder coat them and have had no trouble with them. I think the large vs small hp is a preference thing. The large hp will likely open up more and the bullet itself will be a little bigger compared to the same weight bullet with a smaller hp.

I really appreciate the info, and thank you for that. Your explanations make sense. Did you go with the aluminum or brass version?

Participant::Most of mine are aluminum, but only for cost/availability reasons. Iron or whatever variant they are currently using for molds (RCBS, Lyman) is by far my first choice, but there’s are a lot fewer molds available in iron and they cost a lot more. I’ve only had one brass mold, but I was really impressed with it. My next one will probably be brass.

again, for someone deciding to finally take the plunge into the world of casting my own, your words are helpful. Thank you.
Last question, is this run for either the large or small hollow point? It did not specify, so I was curious. Or are they more getting a feel for what the customers would like and then make up the run accordingly?2016-04-21 at 22:34 #502861jeffsmith
Participant::This is just a discussion to see how much interest there would be in a rerun. The large hp rg4 hasn’t been available on the website for at least the year that I’ve been watching for it, so this may be the only way to get an out of stock item. I’m not sure whether the op was interested in a small or large hp. At least one poster wanted the small one. I am after the large one. I guess if one or the other gains enough interest that one will be ran.
Good luck with your casting. It can be a lot of fun, but be safe and don’t forget, lead is toxic.
