If you are going to make a full wad cutter … then make it with a Hollow Point… Version

That way you can reverse it and it can be installed as a HP or as an HB projectile …

I do it all the time…

I usually just load the hollow base wadcutter backwards for a hollow point and they work very well.

I have a older smith 25 in 45colt with slow twist that prefers 185grain or less

<p style=”text-align: left;”>By preferring the 185 Grain or less … bullet of a Wadcutter design that only technically leaves one with the 454-170 Double ended wadcutter which does not have an HP option being offered… Also there is none currently in stock of this particular mould… so if it strikes your fancy You might wish to move this request query to the what you would like to see run option … in the hope of getting some other members to also want that mould design…   It tends to work for the light end of the cast bullet spectrum.</p>
Since it appears that an HP is of a secondary choice a light straight wadcutter design would seem to be your preference … judging by your replies…

You also might want to indicate whether you intend to push those 454 dia wadcutter faster than 1600 FPS… or not, though your comment about turning around the HP bullets to make them an HB version… might potentially indicate otherwise.

The reason that I mention this is because there are Litho Aluminum Plain Base GC’s out there that can fit those PB Wadcutters and turn them into a GC version…

Any of the Regular RG versions that are capable of being made into a HP or an HB version will most probably need a heavier RG pin made to get your end product cast weight down to your 185 Gr or less cast product. You can order spare pins and make your own pins … Just remember to keep the angle at 7 degrees or more for ease of extracting the cast product off of the pins…

Sorry that  at the  moment,  I can not be of more help to you…  All of the above are doable as I have designed special moulds or modified standard moulds, as noted above to meet my needed requirements.

Since I last posted, & before your latest replies, which according to the forum2 … the illustrations appear to be too large for the new forum to display…  I ran some numbers in my version of the NOE design software … First of all a .454 x .454 WC design in the standard WW alloy would weigh in at approximately 202 grains … That’s of course using a traditional lube design … You see I basically figured out how to display a version of a double ended wadcutter to show the actual bullet …

If you were to go to something like what I came up with in monotype alloy you might get the weight down to something like 178 grains …  However that might not be very kind to an older 45 Colt revolver.

Now for what it is worth a 202 grain design hollow pointed can give you a plethora of HP HB designs that are under the 185 grain fighting weight … that say that you are looking for.
In order to get to a 185 grain weight with a standard WC design with a wheelweight alloy (which I believe is is now currently set up as the NOE standard for a standard .454 dia wadcutter would have to be ~ .431 long …  (Other than air guns of course).

Since the forum2 did not allow me or others who might just want to respond & to view what you sent to Al… I cannot say… what exactly your design looks like except by applying text to describe said design…

I cannot comment on what you sent … That being said I have previously told Al in the past that he can have my of my designs .to post  … all he has to do is ask me via my email address which he has…

I sincerely regret that I can not help you in this … endeavor any further.. to try to get both of us on basically the same page design wise.

If Al asks me for my basic design format … I will gladly send them to him via email … so that as a keymaster he can possibly  post them to hopefully help illustrate what you are looking for …  maybe then both sets of design thoughts can be displayed so that the membership can look and decide on what it is that they might be interested in.

Please understand I am not trying to argue with you in any way shape or form … I am only trying to get an idea of what you want, & to hopefully help you display what you are looking for… to try to raise the needed 10 individuals to request a new design run…
