500gr 45-70 lever action mold

I’m interested in a mold like the HTC459-500-SP except with a flat or blunt round nose suitable for use in 45-70 lever actions.  Weight needs to be at least 500gr.  Maybe a crimp groove?

ok, here is an updated drawing showing a little tweaking of diameters and shortening up the bullet a little to make the weight closer to 500gr.

Will my small/medium size single stage presses be strong enough to size these to .459 after powder coating? 

I size the lee .429 to .430 after powder coating easily, but they are much shorter and have lube grooves. 

Assuming I can reasonably size these to 0.459 after powder coating I’m in.

Should be.  I use a Lee classic cast press to size my bullets.  I size my powder coated .459-500-SP bullets with it–although I use a little sizing lube on the bullets to make things go smoothly.

Are you the full lead taco guy?  I followed your instructions and got great results on my subsonic 44 ammo.  The lee mold came out at 260gr and I shot almost 100 rounds last week and no lead in the barrel or silencer even with the bare spots where the bullets were touching the mesh tray in the over.  I cast and coated enough bullets in one evening that it paid for the mold, powder, and toaster oven.  I’m pretty excited for 500gr subsonic ammo!

Yup that’s me.  I think this will be a good bullet for suppressed lever guns or unsuppressed leverguns.  I wonder if we should throw in a hollow point option for this mold.  It would make it lighter, but could be fun.  Any interest in a hollow point option for this mold?

what weight roughly do you want it to be with a hollow point?  The deeper the hollow point, the less it will weigh.  Want me to just draw one up?
