What’s the weight on this one.  Did we shoot it out of your 8mm Scout Sporter last summer at Edd’s?

          Pardon the oversight!

174 gr. average before lube and check, with “60/40 Copperhead Plus”. (Approximately 60% range scrap, 40% WW, one quarter of one percent copper and a bit of solder for the “Plus”)

Yes sir, we did, military K98k with Leupold red dot Scout mount.

I like the look of that, I’d be in for one if we can get .326″

                A couple of questions:

                1) what does the meplat measure (approx.)?

                2) Can Swede fit 6 cavities into a mold like HM2 did? (I know that my HM2 molds are about the size of Swede’s 5-bangers… but they’re .312″ cavities.)

                3) I’m guessing that Jared orbited the ‘Harris’ cherry to obtain the .325″ cavity; if the GC shank turned out OK for an 8MM GC, couldn’t Swede do the same thing with HIS ‘Harris’ cherry?  Seems doable to me, anyway.

                I could be in for a .325″ 6 banger.

I have the HM2 mould and sadly have not used it yet. Too many other projects in the way. The design makes a great deal of sense in the 8mm bore size where bore and groove diameters vary a lot.

                    NYB,

Meplat is .180.  I see Al has several 5 cavitie 8mm moulds, not sure about 6 cavity.  we get closer to ten buyers and I will ask Al about it.  I’d rather not bother him while they’re trying to catch up on Group Buys right now.  Yes, Jarod orbited out the cherry to get the 8mm while doing the .30 buy, and IIRC, orbiting out was how the 325008 came to be after I sweet talked Al into it,,,,,,,,.

I have some interest in this mold, seems like it could be really good design for mauser.

                        :) I`d be interested in a .325″ 5 holer mould.

If you only need an extra .0001″, have you considered powder coating the .325″ castings?  Makes life simple(r).

                                I think I would prefer .326 too, GC in a 3 cav or RG2.

Can’t see bothering with a GC with the speed  / pressure.

W/W water quench and a good lube should be more than enough.

8X57mm Mauser has a SAAMI max at 35K psi.

                                    My Accurate guide gives max for 170 lead / jacket 2253 / 2262 fps & 31.7K / 33.6K psi.

LASC “Cast Bullet Notes” gives Quenched WW – dropped from mould to water – is around 18 BHN.  Also notes Handloader Magazine formula of BHN X 1422 (25,596 in this case) as the MINIMUM chamber pressure to obturate.  Also noted is Quench-cast WW Approximate Maximum Chamber pressure rifle / pistol is 48K to 55K for quality bore.

A RG HB would solve a lot of the different / worn bore problems, but not sure if it would be a good idea for top loads.  Anyone know :-

AS ALWAYS, if you something on the base gives you a warm fuzzy feeling, get one of PATMARLINS PB checkmakers.  They work like Zorro’s sword and it gives you something to do with all those soda / beer cans tossed out along the roads. ;D
