      I’m looking forward to doing some more load development
      this year with my 9.3×62 and the NOE mold I bought a couple
      of years ago.
      Last year I had it going 2200 fps with 295 gr lubed and checked.
      I was moose hunting in Saskatchewan, but I only shot a little whitetail at about 80 yds.
      Was pleased with the performance, no violent expansion.
      Anyone here loading cast in 9.3×62(or 57)?
      I see some guys are using the .35 whelen, that’s pretty similar.
      Constructive thoughts appreciated.

          Well, I haven’t yet gotten around to loading for the 9,3×62 but I plan to, so I’m interested.
          Wich mold do you use? I have been looking at the 368-280-FN 2 Cavity GC that is currently available.

            I have that mold in 6 cav as that was all available at the time.
            I wasted a lot of bullets, powder and time before realising that I had a bedding issue.
            Gonna try some RL 19 this year.

              In my 20″ barrel using the 368-280-FN, QuickLoad predicts almost 2050 fps  using 58.8gr of RL19 but it’s loading density is already at 99.6% if you seat to 3.145″. Pressure maxxes around 36k.  61.7 gr might get over 2150 fps but you’re at 104% density & 42k psi  <-- prediction, like the 'Pirate Code' just a guideline...
              I’ve been playing with Accurate 2495 & 4350 because they ignite easy but A2495 didn’t have the tighter group and A4350 was under 2000 fps. Will try H414 next: definitely need hotter primers like the Winchester LRM.

                Cool, thanks for posting that. I have about 1/2 lb of rl19 and a little bit of 4350.
                My barrel is 22″ ( I think!) But that won’t give me another 200 fps.
                I can live with the 2200 fps I got with RL 15, but it’s nice to keep trying.

                  I know 3-round groups aren’t much statistically but:

                  20″ barrel, Prvi brass

                  Winchester LR primers
                  50.0 gr IMR-3031  about 90% loading density
                  2171 fps avg w/ 13 Sd
                  Accuracy wasn’t that great but I’ll repeat w/o the Magnetospeed on the barrel and I have a ‘barrel tuner’ to see if I can bring the groups in. Powder burn was 100% so no left over kernels.

                  Winchester  LR Magnum primers
                  56.3 gr H414 about 90.2% loading density
                  2028 fps w/ 15 Sd
                  I hit the paper but very few little spherical kernels left behind.

                  Even with bad ignition I was getting better accuracy with the A4350 & A3100 at 1900~1950fps & 100% loading density so I will re-visit the A4350 with Winchester primers and lower velocity.

                    I have a wood stock sitting at the post office if I can ever get
                    to pick it up. I got unsatisfactory results with h4895, but I think
                    that was before I bedded the flimsy crap stock that is on the gun.
                    50 gr of RL15 gave an average of 2190fps and about 2″ groups which is minute of
                    Elk or Moose in the thick Northern SK bush.

                      I am using the Hollow point, 280 grain mold, 50-50 lino-lead, sized to .367 over 50 Grains of H335, seated to the last band, and am extremely happy with them so far.  With my light barrel the first 3 group in a quarter at 100 yards, after that they wonder.  I didn’t have the chrony out yet so no idea the velocity.

                        Made a trip to the cabin today, and was able to chrony this load. 5 shots with a spread from 2163, to 2171.  Very happy with the load. Fired a factory privi load and it was 2190.

                          Doc44 and I picked up a couple of Husqvarna rifles in 9.3×57.  Doc’s is a M46 and mine is a M46A, both built on Swedish M96 actions and they weigh in around 7#.

                          Both of them have huge chambers.  They are over size in diameter and length, plus they have over 1/2″ of freebore.  The groove on Doc’s is .371″ and mine is .368″!  The twist is 14″
                          Most of my load development so far has been with jacketed bullets and surprisingly enough, they shoot fairly well.
                          The first loads tried had the primers back out a long way, so…
                          With the chambers being so huge, I necked the brass up with a 416 Taylor expander button, then I backed the 9.3×57 sizer die out abit and sized the brass down, untill the empty cases would just chamber.  I locked the sizer die down, ran all of the cases through it, then annealed all of the cases.

                          For load development I turned to Quickload.  I measured the water capacity of a fired case and came up with 66.5gns H2O vs 63gns for an unfired case.  With the bore area being larger, I put in .103004″ vs .102796″ and made my own cartridge profile.  Most of the 9.3×57 load data out there is kept very low.  The Swedish M96 action was chambered for 6.5×55 which has a max pressure of 55kpsi, so I thought that it seemed reasonable to run the 9.3×57 to the same pressure.

                          I tried the Speer 9.3-270’s first and they shot real well at around 2000fps.

                          We tried sizing down some .375″ bullets with Impereal sizing wax and NOE’s sizers.  I polished the sizer inserts real well with 400 wet and dry sandpaper on a dowel.  With a generous amount of lube, the .375″ bullet will push right through the .368″ sizer die and pop out at .369″ on the other size.

                          Next we located some Speer .375″ 235s and sized them through the same NOE sizer dies.

                          Now I’m getting around to trying some cast in the rifles.
                          I have a box of Hunter’s Supply .375 260LFN style gas check bullets, but they don’t put the gas check on them.  I tried some .375″ gas checks and they had problems going through the sizer die, so I tried some 9.3 GatorChecks.  They were a snug fit on the shank of the bullets, but they went through the sizer just fine.
                          I tried 2400 first and played with the seating deapth abit to get this target.

                          With the .565″ of freebore I won’t be able to seat into the lands, so I’m just going to have to seat to the bottom of the neck and hope that the alignment is good enough.
                          The 2400 target looks interesting, so now I’m going to try H4895 next and see if I can turn up the velocity abit.
                          If it looks like I’ll be able to get some reasonable accuracy with cast, then I’ll see about ordering a mold.  The 368-280FN sure looks like a great boolit.

                            Jim Lukenbill was kind enough to send me some( a large bag ) of the NOE 368-280FN boolits.  Thanks again :)
                            I sized to .369″ and lubed them with 2500+, and seated to just cover the lube groove.  The large front driving band was able to get some contact with the .565″ of freebore which I think helped it to shoot well.  I loaded with 24 gns of 2400 which gave 1540fps, and also shot really well.    I may have to get a copy of the mold for my 9.3×57.

                              Nice looking groups there.  That is a heck of a bullet.  I can’t wait for November to see its affect on a whitetail.
