Would there be any interest in a NOE copy of the Hensley & Gibbs 41 caliber 220 grain Keith semi wad cutter bullet (H&G 258) ? It’s a 41 caliber version of the NOE 432-265-SWC (H&G 503) mould. So any interest out there ? The NOE buy of the Lyman 410459 went well maybe this has some possibilities . I don’t personally have any version of this mould so it would be a welcome addition.

I believe the 412429 that was run (and is still available) turned out to be an “improved” 410429 that got it closer to the H&G design.  Some more info here if you missed it:  http://noebulletmolds.com/smf/index.php/topic,49.0.html

It was the 412-224 SWC (412459) mould that brought me to NOE originally. I was looking for a Lyman 4 cavity 410459 mould when a search pulled up the NOE 412459. A trial purchase of a 5 cavity mould was followed a week later by my second NOE mould a RG4 mould also in 412459. Suffice it to say that the RG4 put my single cavity Lyman 410459 hollow point mould to shame. Since then I’ve been steadily replacing my most used Lyman and RCBS one, two and four cavity moulds with NOE 5 cavity and RG4’s. With regards to the H&G 258 41 Keith bullet there are differences granted probably somewhat trivial but it would be another mould to play with. Thank you for trying to point out the 412-224-SWC (412459) mould to me though.

I, too, would like to have a true H&G 258 to add to the collection.  Now, does anybody have some actual #258 bullets from a vintage H&G mould to take measurements from?  When I poke around on the internet to find some actual as-cast pictures or measured drawings of a real #258, it is like looking for Bigfoot.

Bigfoot’s easier particularly on the internet.

I have a Ballisticast mould for that bullet if that will satisfy you. It is supposidley made from the original H&G cherry. It is very accurate in my 8 3/8 Smith & Wesson.

If we should reach the stage where samples are needed for a drawing it would be a great start. Hopefully we can begin to generate some interest here. Thanks

Would like to get this one back to life!
Any samples would be appreciated – any more interest?

How different would this be from the 412-237 Keith that was just run?

If you open a group buy, I would sign up for a RG4.

I don’t have this mould so I can’t say for sure what the differences would be between the H&G 258 and the NOE 41 Keith would be. It’s my understanding that when Lyman came out with it’s 410459 41 Keith bullet without any input from Elmer, Mr. Keith wasn’t to impressed. So Elmer Keith went to H&G and developed the 41 mould number 258. If you follow the Keith bullet saga (and yes it’s a saga) you’ll know that Mr. Keith generally didn’t like what mould manufactures did to his designs. His complaint was that the mould makers were forever changing his specifications. And not just Lyman. The other part of the problems seem to be that Mr. Keith was forever experimenting and over time he himself changed what was important to the bullets design however minor those changes mite be. As a fan of the 41 the idea of another mould to play with in this caliber interest me even if the differences are pretty minor. Oh and I forgot to mention the H&G was designed around 1964-65 and the moulds NOE copied were designed about a decade later. Elmer passed around 1984. That means half a century since the H&G 258 was a new design. Hopefully what’s old will be new again.

Thanks for the heads up Dave. I would be glad to help.
I think this bullet, the H&G 258, is the finest 41 caliber version of all the Keith copy cats. I have the same feeling about the H&G 503 for the 44. Let me know where to send them and I’ll forward a few samples.

Just send 3 or 4 unsized bullets to Swede at the NOE address so they can be measured and a drawing made. Maybe this buy will get rolling.

One other thing Swede likes the sample bullets cast of wheel weight. Should have mentioned that.

OOPS  I sent him some sized and lubed bullets from my alloy of 8WW + 2 Pure lead + 2% Tin. Don’t have any cast and un-sized bullets. I can get to it but it will be after the IHMSA ECC, in other words the middle of August.
