Have a Savage 99 with a 14″-1 twist .250 chambered.  I’m curious if others have any experience with a NOE mold?  As they are on special this week and going to buy at least one.  I have found the hard way that the rifle will not shoot long/heavy j-words.  haven’t got to experiment yet but from advice from a cast boolit shooter he has claimed that the projectile length is more important than weight.  And the magic number is suppose to be 0.850″ long.  So a couple fit the bill, just looking for real life experience before I commit.

      Thanks
      Kevin

Sorry I didn’t see this earlier. I use the NOE 260-80 RF in my 1-14″ Savage 99. Prior to getting that mold I tried cast bullets at .820″ and .740″ in length and had terrible results. Groups were 8″ and 6″ respectively. It wasn’t until I filed down the noses of the .740″ to .700″ that I started to see real improvement. At .685″ I had real groups and started searching for a mold. This was my first NOE mold and I only bought a two cavity as I wanted to be sure it worked. It worked so well I now want a 4 cavity to replace it with. There is a thread in the inventory run section to get on the list for one.

I have just acquired a ’99 and have yet to make the brass from 22-250 cases.  What loads do you use? I’m guessing you gas check all your bullets?  Do you buy the gas checks or make them?

I use IMR3031 and H4895 and Hornady gas checks. I form my brass from Lake City .308

I have had several rifles chambered for the .250 Sav….. Remington 700’s, Savage model 16, and a Ruger 77. All have 1:10″ twists, so my experiences with them may not be applicable to your 1:14″ Savage 99. However, I did have good luck with the RCBS 100g, the Saeco 100g, and the old Cramer 55A which is also 100g. Reloder 7 seems to shoot the best in my rifles of this caliber.

              Have fun!
