Participant::I have been shooting it in a 15″ contender in our monthly IHMSA matches. I have been playing with strange loads, like Hybrid 100V, and IMR 4064, mostly because I have quite a bit of it. I have been working for 2000 fps and it has been shooting well for me. I have be using heat treated COWW and Lars new blue lube with good success. If I do my part I can shoot moa with them.

You’re going for a 98% lead and 2% tin bullet? Or were you going to use antimony? I would think 2% tin would be too soft to push to 2200 fps reliably. When I go that fast I use Lyman #2 or something with a higher percentage of antimony. I have a recipe that harder than #2 but not quite Linotype.
Anyway, I’ve got a 1-7 16″ AR barrel that I had to tweak with a chamber reamer so that the bolt closes on my 7.62x39mm cases which have been converted to 6.5 Grendel. From what I’ve read it’s due to the fact that the 7.62 bolt face isn’t deep enough. I tried cutting down the bolt face but it’s just so dang hard I figured it’d be easier to cut the chamber a couple thou. So now I just need to get to the range.
I use Quickload to get a starting point. I came up with the following to startIMR 4064, 26.3g, NOE 266-125-GC – 35k psi, 2076fps
The thing I liked about this powder (using this bullet) was that you can fill the case and still not over-pressure things. According to Quickload (and it has been a fairly good prognosticator). Here’s the 100% capacity load
IMR 4064, 30.12g, NOE 266-125-GC – 46k psi, 2310fps
Of course I haven’t tried this yet so I’m going to creep up on that 30.12g load.

::Alvin I use 98% COWW and 2% HSB (for the small amount of copper)
with this alloy I am able to push a 358 Winchester with a NOE 200gr HP Powdercoated / GC at 2369 FPS avg and 3/4 MOA
That’s mid range jacketed velocity in my load books
was able to get a Noe 311 159GR HP to 2000 FPS sub MOA before I quit trying and said that’s good enough
hoping I can get the 6.5 to at least 2200 FPS… Know it might require some real work but hey I’m up for it2017-06-26 at 12:14 #508450AlvinYork
