      Hey guys,
So many hardnesses so little money I’m willing to spend.

I acquired WW’s and made a boatload of ingots. Gave a lot away, which I kept a couple of dozen for me.

The tested 15-17 BHN. I shoot some 21 BHN .358 SWC’s GC’d hard lube made by Rogers Better Bullets, out of King Of Prussia PA. They shoot ok, close range but out at 25 to 50 not so good. The Taurus 66 with a 4 inch barrel probably isn’t the best test gun, I know, but it’s what I got. No leading issues with .38 Spl loads or .357 mag loads either.

I’m hoping that my WW bullets shoot better with Old NRA formula lube… being softer.

Is there a particular, softer, like near 15-17 BH that doesn’t lead at say higher velocities… above 1800 FPS?

I’m aware that softer lead tends to trail with higher velocity loads with the lube I use for lower .38 loads.

I don’t know about your 357, but straight ww that are water quenched and tumbled in alox and shot at 1600-1800fps(guessing) out of my 30-06 don’t lead either as pb or gc. I have no idea of the bhn and don’t care. It works and that is my criteria. Ross

I find hard alloys lead. unless bullet fit is near perfect, for loads up to 1800-2000 fps I use a BHN of 10-12 made from range scrap and plumbers lead that works well in all my rifles which are mainly older military bolt guns giving consistent groups of around the 2″ mark with worked up loads.

For higher velocities for the longer ranges then I like tougher not harder bullets and like to add a smidgen of copper to a slightly harder alloy which comes out at around BHN 18 these I use for driving 210-220 gn bullets to around 2,400 fps in my 303s.

Rigorous bullet QC and very consistent and detail conscious loading is needed to get results on target at the longer ranges, currently shooting out to 800 yrds but have shot them at 1000 yrds.
