I just finished measuring the chamber cast of my Rem 700 in 308W. I am using a NOE mold that drops 0.310.  The the barrel is 308/303.  Do I size for 308 or 309?  How do you pick the expander plug size.  It should be simple but I have never done any cast for rifles.

I would size the bullet .0015 to .0020 over groove. In other words, at .310″. I would think you need the 30REXP Plug.

Yes Sir good advice start with a .310 mold then size from there, you might find a.309 works better in your rifle, keep a eye on your OAL I like to load out to the leading if I can.

            Ranch Dog,
So you recommend 0.003 under for tension? (0.310 cast size – 0.307 expander size)? The 0.001 mouth flare/bell is then recommended for ease of seating the bullet?

Sorry for NOOB questions, I am just getting ready to cast for my Mosin M91/30. (.312 groove / .301 land) My buddies is .313/.303. I have signed up for the Ed Harris bullet group buy in a 0.314 diameter.

I’m just using the .003″ under and then chamfering the case mouth. All my rifle shooting is with gas checked bullets. Without the check and with a flat base bullet the .003″ is going to need to be reduced to .001″ ~ .002″. I do not flare or bell the case mouth any further.
