Having problem with Push Through Sizing Die

I’m new to sizing bullets using the NOE Push Through Sizing Die. The mold is 311-199-FN-J2 and I’m using Linotype and dropping the bullets in water directly from the mold. The problem is that it is near impossible to push a bullet base first (haven’t tried nose first) through the die. The bullets dropped from the mold is .3123” and across the pressed on gas check base is .320” before sizing. I’m using Imperial Sizing Die Wax and Hornady Unique Case Lube  to lube the bullets. I have to use my closed fist to hammer the press handle to get the bullet thru the die. The sized bullet measures .3095” using a .309” die. Something is wrong here; something I’m not doing correctly because there is no way that it should take this much force to push a bullet through the sizing die.

I forgot to mention; the bullets are just a difficult to push through the sizing die without a gas check on the base so the gas check is not the problem. I can’t think of a better lube then what I’m using.
Any ideas ?

Trying to push to much through to little!
And to hard too.
Have you checked the groove size of your barrel?

If your groove size is lets say .3085″ to .309″ and you run your bullet size .0015″ to .002″ over groove
you can size your bullets .3105″ to .311 and use a lot softer alloy.
I have shot that same bullet sized .3105″ to .311 with wheel weights in just about every 30Cal I own. If I need/want to push them hard I water drop wheel weights and size the same.

If you are going to size as much as you are trying to now you may have to use two sizes to get there.
Say a .310 and a .309 – even that is going to be difficult with your hard alloy.

For anyone following this thread; I talked to Al on the phone and the bottom line is my sizing dimensions are OK for my .307” bore size but my lead mix is way too hard which is causing all of my problem. I was under the impression that sizing hard bullets wouldn’t be that much different then sizing with my .45-70 bullets using a 20-1 mix. This is my first attempt at sizing very hard (way way too hard) lead. Lesson learned !
