hollow point mold question

First I have never cast a hollow point bullet before, but am an experienced caster.  My question is, I need a mold that is currently not available.  Is there any way to use a hollow point mold to cast without the hollow point device?  Sorry if this is seemingly a “dumb” question as I have never even seen a hollow point mold.

NOE sells two types of HP moulds…. The RG style have hinged pins and usually come with 2 or 3 sets, one of which is a flat nose pin that casts the bullet without the HP…. The other is the “Lyman” style, which only has one cavity with the HP pin…. You can turn the pin around and mount it in the handle the other way, so instead of having one cavity cast with a HP, it too would be a FN….

I don’t believe that you can cast without the hollow point moulds pins in place. I’m not sure why you would want to. The mould pins are held in place by clips and don’t need to be manually put in place ( there are some NOE moulds that use a Lyman style pin and these are an exception ) Most RG moulds (hollow point moulds) come with three sets of pins a shallow hollow point a deeper point pin and a pin that leaves the nose in a solid form if no hollow point is wanted. These pins are easily changed as long as you can run a screw driver. In a multi cavity RG mould you may even mix and match the different pins in one mould and get different style bullets with one cast. If the mould that you want has been run before suggest a rerun in the forum and see if you can find four other people who are interested (it takes five “I Want”) for a new mould run. Good Luck
