I am getting back into making my own and just ordered my first NOE mould.  In the past I never used a hot plate to heat up the mould, but can see where it would be a good idea.  In looking at hot plates there are quite a few wattages.  Anyone want to share what wattage they are using?

      Thanks,

      Jerry

I use an 1100 watt and it heats the mold in about 10 minutes on high. I don’t put it on the hotplate until the lead is about at casting temp. My hotplate has coils on top and not a solid surface,so I have placed a old circular saw blade to even out the temp to the mold. I place a oven thermometer on the saw blade to know when to remove the mold from the hotplate. I cast outside and if it’s windy or cool I use an oven made from a large electrical box with a hole cut in the side to insert the mold. I place it on the saw blade and put the thermometer on the blade beside the box. I usually take the mold out at 325 or 350.
