I have, and use as the conditions indicate, the Lee Factory Crimp dies. I think they are considered a different animal marketing-wise but they essentially do the same thing. A good example where I use them would be the 230 NOE 300 BLKs. There’s not a whole lot of neck to grab onto the bullet so I usually end up running them through the “factory crimp” die just to be sure things are appropriately rigid. You can adjust how much tension is put on the neck by adjusting the die; lower would push the cartridge farther in giving a tighter crimp, higher would give a lighter crimp. You can adjust to find a happy medium for your application.
I would agree with that and that’s what I shoot for (pardon the pun). But not all brass that gets reloaded (mine anyway) is “springy” enough to respond properly to the neck size and M-die treatment (I use the NOE expander plugs when I don’t have the matching sized M die). For those cases I squeeze them through the collet/crimp die. Not a lot, just what it takes to keep things together.
