Normally, I shoot 230 grainers in my .45 ACP’s, but my father has some joint deterioration in his hands/wrists, and we’re looking for ways to lessen recoil, so 200 grain slugs seem like a good way to go for him.

We like big meplats, but that reduces the length of the bullet, which in turn makes them less feeding-friendly.

So here’s my thinking:  Go with a roughly .30 caliber meplat on a RNFP, and use extra or larger lube/crimp grooves to push the weight forward and keep the nose long.  This might let us approach the roughly .60″ overall length of most of the 230 grainers of this general profile.

      Thoughts on the concept?

There’s already an Active Group Buy going on now for something like what you’re looking for. See: http://noebulletmolds.com/smf/index.php/topic,118.0.html?PHPSESSID=kes52idhrpmpp854413ao0nph5

Its the 453 210 gr RF, and has a .327″ meplat, and is .600″ long. Seven people have signed-up already. If you signed on too, it would be that much closer to going into production.

Mmmmmmm. . .not quite.  That one is 210 grains as a hollowpoint, which is something I’m pretty much moving away from.  As a solid, much too heavy.
