This an excellent bullet that both my Parker Hale Volunteer and Whitworth rifles just love out to 600 yrds.

I’d very much like a multi cavity mould of this bullet dropping 0.452″ with pure lead or 30:1  lead to tin to help speed up my production as I am shooting a lot of these. A four cavity would be just dandy.

Well I do fancy getting a volunteer at some point so I am tentatively interested.

You should have been there yesterday, Jim was in Volunteer heaven at 100 yards.

Had a casting day planned, stocks were getting down. Glad you boys had a good day though.  8)

I shoot a Parker Hale Volunteer and it is very accurate with the 451114. However, if I was to invest in a new mould ,  I would be more interested in seeing the older Lyman 451112, which is no longer available, and was also designed for the Whitworth and Volunteer–reproduced in a heavier wt., say, 485 grains. Or, alternately, a heavier version of the 114, mebbe 500 grains.

Have you got any bullets from a 451112 for Al to work from?

Perhaps an adjustable for length mould?

As I said over on Cast Boolits I have a Helmut Mohr 500 gn mould for the Volunteer and Whitworth and the lighter 451114 out shoots it out to 600 yrds which has surprised me somewhat, I haven’t done a comparison at the longer distances and it is unlikely I’ll be getting back to 1000 nowadays.

I don’t have any 451112s, or the mould block, but that was the mould that was originally designed for the Volunteer, iirc. An adjustable base would be fine, but may be more expensive than is worthwhile for me. However, a mould block cut with a longer bullet as one of the cavities would be a nice option?

The 451112 was originally designed for the .45 Sharps Bailey and could be had in a number of different weights. Lyman never designed any bullets for the reproduction Whitworth or Volunteer rifles. They just dusted off old mold designs used for obsolete cartridges. The 451114 was an original Sharps grease grooved design. The 457121 (Lymans “PH Whitworth”) was designed for 45-70 and 45-90 Winchester 1885 and 1886 rifles and was also available in various lengths/weights. I have PH Birmingham Whitworth & Volunteer rifles and the Euro Arms versions of each. I have had great results with the 457121 (sized properly for each individual barrel) in all four rifles which is something I can’t say about the 451114. I would like to have a design with a hollow base and thick skirt dropping around 500 grains (+ or – 20 grains) and .452″ diameter.
