      1988 Marlin 1894S 41 Rem Mag,

Williams FP rear receiver sight fitted with Merit Adjustable iris – GEAR  :)

Cast to 220 grains, BNH 18, bump-sized with a Buckshot made custom lube-sizer die to 0.414″

      Ben’s Red lube.

Gator 41 check – not the best fit, some do come off this boolit, looking to try the 416’s next on NOE’s advice.

9.3 grains Longshot. Seated to crimp groove, Lee Collet-Style crimp (firm).  They cycle well, 9 fit in the tube mag.

At the 100 yards range a few hours ago..  Perfect condition, not a breath of wind.

I shot some sets of 3 gas-check, 3 plain base on same sheet to compare.

Gas-checked boolit, under 0.5″ c2c    This was typical, I did see some wild flyers as the checks came off, as the boolits were otherwise carefully checked for same weight.  Plain-Base, these didn’t group well, I think I need the alloy harder, I did try some Linotype cast PB last time (BHN 21) before and they were excellent.

Seated, rested elbows, no sling, 100 yards  – These 41’s can really perform.

An update, I re-tried the Plain-Base bullets but added hardness to BHN 21 and sized to 0.414

        Same load, 9.30 grains Longshot.

That top-left 5th shot opened up an otherwise 1-MOA 100-yard group.

This is a good 100-yard Target bullet for the microgroove Marlin 1894.  Found it needs more velocity if going out beyond 100.

Makes me wonder what this puppy can do if I fit a scope…

          Another day.

This time, driving the same NOE 413-230-LFN much faster, around 1651 fps with 20.0 grains of Lil Gun.

Un-resized Remmy brass, Federal Mag primers. Lee Collet-style crimp.

Pat Marlin 0.007″ Alu home-made gas checks, Ben’s Red lube, sized 0.414″

100 yards rested elbows, no bags, still just using the Williams Receiver peep-sights.

The 4 big holes of course..

Pretty pleased with this from such a powerful load, boy the report did bark some, but recoil a breeze compared to my time with a 44.

Berm recovery’s showed checks staying on nicely.

Chose to just try groups of 4 as it was hot, windless and we could not keep our barrels cool at all.

This is my ‘cowboy’ gun for our local Lever-Action comps, that’s why I don’t use scopes, bags or rests.
