      Hi NOE Crew,

I purchased a NOE 265-432 RF RD RG4 Brass Mold, At what velocity do I need to start to gas check these bullets, I am going to shoot these bullets out of a Marlin 1894 44 mag.
The Lead alloy I am using will give a BH of about 23.

      Thanks In Advance.
      MickeyJr.

        Why such a hard alloy?

        |What velocities are you looking for?

I’d shoot them without checks and see if there is a problem that gas checks might solve.

There are too many variables to give a meaningful reply for you rifle and load.

I use a softer alloy BHN 12, 2500 lube and no gas checks with no problem velocity a tad over 1500 fps with that bullet weight.

          Hi Dromia,

Thanks for the reply, My goal for this bullet to be in 1500-1700 FPS velocity, I received 2x 60lbs bars of this lead alloy, its the same as a local commercial caster uses.
I though might as well use it up. You are right I will cast some solid base bullets and GC bullets and see if there is leading and the velocity of the bullets via the chrono.

          Cheers,
          MickeyJr.

I would be tempted to soften that alloy if you can.

Commercial casters use hard alloys as it helps stop bullet damage during transit not be cause it performs better.

Bullet fit is king and a softer alloy can help a little with that.

I would also try the GCed bullet without a check, you never know.

              Hi Dromia,

Thank you for the info, will soften the alloy and try the GC bullets without a gas check. Will update how it goes.

              Cheers,
              MickeyJr
