Here is how it went down:
Bought an NOE case expander (433 x .429 (P)Exp.)
Then drilled it through so powder could pass thru it.
(why they don’t come already drilled escapes me me)Drilling in stages I created a interior funnel shape Like on a Lee powder thru expander.
Smoothed and polished the drilled portions down so no powder would hang up going through it.
ok, that’s done..
Grabbed an unused Dillon RIFLE powder funnel. (this happens to be a “B” funnel 30/06 , 308)
Then dropped the modified NOE expander followed by the Dillon rifle funnel into the Dillon powder die.
installed and adjusted powder measure as usual.
The powder measure spring keeps the two tightly stacked during the powder drop.
So, I finally have a Dillon M style case expander for my 44-40 thanks to NOE.
Powder drops down through the Dillon Rifle funnel into the NOE expander, and (now that it’s a powder thru expander) into the case.
Note: I felt I had to do this as my 44/40 uses .430 bullets and neither the factory Dillon 44/40 or 44 Mag powder funnel expanded enough to keep from crumpling/deforming 44/40 cases during bullet seating.
May sound hack but …. I have it going for me now, and is working great.
Just thought I’d share.
Note: the NOE expander dropped no problem into one powder die, but wouldn’t in another without a bit of flapper polishing of the die interior. some are pretty rough inside. So your results may vary.
since mine is installed I cobbled the above example together.. kind of explains it.
