NOE mold with Lyman type HP – How to use?

I feel rather uneducated now, I have never used a mold with the Lyman type HP pin. I now have one from NOE, and would like to know if anyone has a site or pictures on how to use this little devil. I’ve got setting up the pin depth, but how does one keep it on the mold when you break it open to drop the bullets? Or do you need to hold onto the wood handle when you break it open?

On my Lyman molds that use a pin like that, I cast, then pull the pin before I open and drop out the boolit.

Can’t help with a video but with a Lyman type hollow point pin I follow this procedure.  Close the mould insert the hollow point pin twist to lock the pin into the mould and pour lead. Allow the spruce to set like normal, give the pin a quarter twist to unlock, pull the pin then cut spruce and drop the bullet. I think you’ll find it important to keep the hollow point pin hot in some fashion or you tend to end up with wrinkled bullet noses. There isn’t much metal in the pin and it tends to cool pretty quickly. good luck

I actually hold on to the wooden knob, twist it before opening and keep the bullet on top of the pin as I open the mold, balance it then drop the bullet into the bucket.
I then immediately close the mold and return the pin so not to lose too much heat and pour quickly again.
Works for me.

Both ways are working well, I’ve taken to dipping the pin in the pot every 8-10 casts to help keep it hot, seems to be working well along with a higher pot temp. Without doing so there were a lot of nose wrinkles. Once the temp was brought where it needed to be all is going smoothly.
