Hello and new to the Forum.

I have been on the search for a Ranch Dog 311-165-RF design for quite a while.  It will be for an 70-80’s era Marlin Microgroove 30-30.  I know that various iterations of this design were offered including tumble lube and traditional grease groove versions, as well as a bore band/rider version as well.

I have specifically been looking for his original design (non bore-rider nose) but with traditional grease grooves.  It seems that when NOE started making this RD’s bullet, they also renamed it to “170/171” in order to more accurately reflect the “as-cast” weight of this design.

It seems to me that the SC311-171-RF-I3 is the current offering/designation, but is an EXACT copy of RD’s original design, albeit with traditional grease grooves.  Just what I have been looking for.

NOE currently has some of these in stock, and I thought I would ask someone with more experience to confirm that this design is a true copy before I drop the Pay Pal hammer on one, probably a 4 cavity GC version.

Attached you will find an excerpt from the excel file that I made up a ways back when NOE changed its mould numbers from old to new…
Unfortunately there appears at the moment to be no old version dimensional sketch that I could find at the moment…
So the Glass is half full…
I also found searching the internet cast bullet websites for images of the 311-165-FN a picture pre ported to be that cast bullet in a PB & a GC version on one of the cast bullet websites…

Let’s see if I can get these attachments to work.

1) The “Original” RD design of this bullet.

2) NOE’s design with traditional grease grooves.

3) Current NOE design.

Ill try again if these photos don’t work.

Well the attachments worked, I apologize for the size of the last one.  The current design [SC311-171-RF-I3] does appear to be the same as the previous NOE 311-165-GC-RF, AND a true copy of the original RD [TLC311-165-RF], albeit with traditional grease grooves.

Hopefully, this is useful to others as well.

While you were replying with what you found.
I looked in my QuickDesign software package.
That is the same design software that NOE uses.
For those of you that have the QuickDesign Software package from TMT… here is the link to that NOE webpage & an excerpt from that webpage..
QuickLoad Data
Quickload is commercial software that helps many reloaders with finding appropriate loads.  It can be used to determine what good starting loads are for less common cartridges,  proper starting charges of pistol powders in rifle cartridges,  how pressures will change with differences in seating depth and so on.  If you haven’t seen quickload, we recommend you download the free trial here.

In that design package I found the original dimensional 311-165 GC RF drawing… that is attached below to help with the identification & to save adding a second attachment with the bullet image, I added the bullet image to that sketch, and saved to combination it as a .jpg… which is now attached below.

Now the other half of the glass I believe appears to be filled up to the full mark..
