Ladies and Gentlemen,
Years ago Dean Thomas had built for him a reproduction of the Confederate Gardner machine. he also had a custom nose pour mold made.

If you are not familiar with it, it had a lead “flange” that as the bullet was formed after casting would cause it to grip the paper that would hold the powder. It was a good idea in theory but the field use showed that it weakened the paper and it would rip where the bullet began spilling powder.

Last year while at a Relic show I found a unformed and formed bullet made from this mold. As both a Civil war Nut, Relic hunter, Black powder shooter, and Bullet caster, I snagged it up as I had been looking for an example to potentially have a mold made.

I am sending out the 2 examples for measurements and a actual dug Civil war Gardner for original measurements. No more delays, They mail out tomorrow 4 Feb 2019 to NOE.

I know there was interest in Getting molds made, is there Still interest? Anyone else interested in possibly getting a mold made?

Version 1: Gardner external dimensions, ready for shooting, no flange to fold over.

You will need to drum up support on other sites that deal with such interests NSSA and the like.

A drawing always helps so if you can send in the bullets to Al at NOE he will have them drawn up.

I had actually posted here first, and have posted on a few other sites to include some facebook groups. So far I have about 5-6 interested since yesterday.

Also I ask of you, would it be better to make a mold that has the flange on it to form similar to the original, or would a Gardner style (aka a formed bullet) be better?

I would be interested in both, and would make my brothwr buy one as well.

Maybe a two cavity mold with skirt on and skirt off.

You guys think that most people would want 2 and 4 cavity mixed (skirt and no skirt)?  Or do it like a regular buy where you can just pick either or in 2-5 cavities?

I’d like to make each of the bullets. Whether it’s a mixed cav or two separate moulds I’ll get it.
so :
    mixed 4 cav 2 of each
  or
      5 cav of each bullet type
I can’t shoot them (yet) but I’m a gear head when it comes to this stuff.

Just to update and bump this back to the top. I PM’ed noonanda a few weeks ago and he fully intends to send in the samples. He’s just got too much going on to get to it. This will be a very interesting mould  once it’s finally made.
