It is not hot enough, the mould, sprue plate, alloy and especially the base pin need to be run HOT!

I usually give the pin and sprue plate a zap with a blow torch now and then, to start with I like to get the whole mould really hot so that the sprue puddle takes along time to solidify and then get the mould down to working temp by varying my casting cadence.

Both depending on the alloy in the bottom pour pot at the time, so it is usually ladle.

I have a new bottom pour pot so I will use my old Pro Melt just for soft lead only bottom pouring.

Ladle works fine I use a Rowel 1lb one it keeps the heat and holds plenty of alloy for a good pour and plenty of spill over the sprue plate to keep its temperature up. the bottom pours are just a wee bit quicker.
